Case fatality rate. Mortality rates are a measure of how many people in the ENTIRE POPULATION die from it (typically expressed as XX per 100,000). CFRs are the percent of cases (people infected) who die.

Welcome to exponential growth.

It’s happening across the country.

LA seems to be doing better than most but will still be doubling multiple times over the next week or two.

Yup not much to report. We already knew cases would go way up for the next few weeks. The story here as pointed out is our lower CFR.

In that case 1.44% is the CFR as of right now.

Speaking of growth:

Did you mean globally or nationally?

That might be the case. It might not. You have to look further than that. You need to also look at the percentage of total cases that are still active. Those in intensive care. Those recovered AND deaths. The charts of when the new cases were found.

If two countries have the same amount of cases, but yet one has ten times as many recovered cases. Your conclusion will be incorrect if you are just looking at cases and deaths.

The struggle with interpreting data is real and I've seen almost nobody that is doing it right.
Part of it is because the rate of infection in the past week has been much higher here. The survivability or mortality of that group won’t be known until next week. The 100,000 cases we’re going to have by next weekend is going to yield deaths the week after that.

When all is said and done our rate of survivability is likely to be similar to other countries, the extent of how much the infection overwhelms resources (the key problem in Italy right now) notwithstanding.

Might have missed the post, but Spain is +718 deaths, passing Italy who is +712.
