A woman who intentionally coughed on more than $35,000 worth of groceries at a Northeast Pennsylvania supermarket and claimed she had the coronavirus has been arrested.

On Wednesday afternoon, the woman, identified by police as Margaret Chirko, went into Gerrity’s Supermarket in Hanover Township, near Wilkes-Barre, and coughed on the store’s entire selection of fresh produce as well as some bakery items, meat, and other food, co-owner Joe Fasula said in a statement.

She has been charged with threatening to use weapons of mass destruction and making terroristic threats, according to the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, and is being held on $50,000 bail.

“While there is little doubt this woman was doing it as a very twisted prank, we will not take any chances with the health and well-being of our customers,” Fasula said.

That might be the case. It might not. You have to look further than that. You need to also look at the percentage of total cases that are still active. Those in intensive care. Those recovered AND deaths. The charts of when the new cases were found.

If two countries have the same amount of cases, but yet one has ten times as many recovered cases. Your conclusion will be incorrect if you are just looking at cases and deaths.

The struggle with interpreting data is real and I've seen almost nobody that is doing it right.
I'm hearing number of deaths/total number of cases being used as a percentage of people who have died from it so far, and calling that the mortality rate.

Twenty. One. Million. Cell. Phone. Gone.

Yeah. I think they might have underreported a tad.

Yeah that was the stat. Clearly that doesn't mean 21M deaths. But perhaps it could mean SOME more deaths + people scared of their government.

I'm not sure how reputable that source was, I'd never heard of it and haven't seen it reported anywhere else.

It is possible that people got rid of their 2nd cell phone because of a crippled economy. But yeah, if that stat is accurate then its a pretty creepy way to find out their population was gutted.

It came from China itself through its four sanctioned cellular providers releasing their subscriber information..

My understanding is that those were government numbers, and adults are required to have cell phones. Even if it's just a percentage of 21 million...

China has ~1.4 billion people and the internet says 1.64 billion mobile subscriptions... so that's two hundred and forty million more subscriptions than people.

21 million subscriptions is only 8.7% of those 240 million extra subscriptions, for a country that was on lock down (and those percentages would of course be lower if people under 10 or whatever weren't included).

Just to put numbers in perspective.

I do not believe it was anywhere near 21 million, BUT I do not believe it was anywhere near 80,000 either. My guess is the Communist Party saw a big number and instructed people to cap it to save face. Funny how all of their new cases are from people coming in from outside as well.

The whole country wasn't on lockdown. Hubei was on lockdown.

Just in case people weren't aware, you can drill down on the attached to see cases on a county basis:
