In today's game having those mid relievers who can do holds good is crucial. Our mid-season trade for middle relievers in 2011 got us over the top to win a WS in 2011.

What are the pros and cons of this year's Cards?
Yep, use to be an elite hard charging team. Now, we are just playing mediocre baseball. No reason for national coverage except for Pujols return and reminding us fans how far we have fallen in the last 4.5 years.
We are way better with base running and defense. But way worse with starting pitching and offense. Not horrible all the time. Sometimes great baseball. Usually, just so-so around .500 baseball. Same as last year before firing our horrible manager. [Reply]

Mike Shildt was not close to raising his voice an entire octave.
But his point was clear. He thinks his team is playing a better brand of baseball, both from an excitement and fundamental standpoint, than he believes many people perceive.
The only 2 people on the planet dumber than Schildt are Matheny and Mozeliak. [Reply]

Our Pirates can hit. But our bullpen is a bunch of cow turds outside the closer. Just dreadful. [Reply]
The sad part is the rest of the division is so weak that they're still only 2.5 games out. The Cubs and Brewers don't seem to give a shit, either. [Reply]

The things that can be improved with solid coaching have gotten better; baserunning and defense can be made better by a manager that emphasizes that sort of thing. The bullpen has even performed well in large part due to improved (though still imperfect) usage.
The things that demand actual talent - hitting and starting pitching - well they suck.

Because Mozeliak is hot garbage.

He may not be the issue. His over praising and constant positivity no matter what grates on me.....welll pisses me off. But see above comment, it may just be a lack of talent. The overvaluing of talent by Mo and Dewitt. Their lowering the bar to compete for a WC instead of a division thats on Mo and Dewitt. You cant fire Dewitt so the only move is send Mo packing. [Reply]

The Cardinals have a team that has a collective 14 WAR right now. So they're on pace for roughly a 76 win season by win shares. Their record is an 82 win pace.
It's basic and simplistic and may just be a product of raw dumb luck, but they're over-performing their production by about 3 games right now.
Shildt is way down the list of problems on this squad. Mozeliak's simply built a bad baseball team. [Reply]

Yea but dont stand there and blow sunshine up our ass and talk about how good you were in April when you scored exactly 0 earned runs against a team who has marginal pitching at best and you cant compete in the most average division in baseball.
We keep seeing stories about the baseball being juiced, you wouldn't know it when the Cardinals are at bat. [Reply]

Oh don't get me wrong, his interview yesterday (or maybe the day before) was the worst. It was Matheny level bad. "Waaaaaah, why don't we get credit for what we did a month ago and our mediocre record in a mediocre division?" I mean FFS man - just say nothing.
But on the field I'm not sure that's how he operates. You see genuine fire and frustration from him quite a bit.
Everything about how the Cardinals organization is dealing with their fans right now is enfuriating all the way to the fact that they STILL haven't fixed that motherfucking camera angle despite the fact that they are part-owners of FSMW and could easily make that call. You see complaints about it every day on social media including people during the Angels series that were seeing it for the first time.
But they don't !@#$ing care. They aren't paying attention to fan frustration at all. And then you have Mozeliak doing interviews where HE blames the fans for pressure that caused him to 'make a trade just to make a trade...'
Piss off, bowtie. You simply don't have a plan so you keep swapping baseball cards. You are !@#$ing trash at your job. [Reply]
