Any and everything but ketchup, a true Chicago dog has a crazy amount of different flavors without it.. and although I used to use ketchup and find the snobbery about its use ridiculous, I am at the same time a sucker for tradition and there are things like relish to sweeten your dog without ketchup.
Someone here a week or so ago said "ketchup makes everything taste like ketchup"... its not 100% true, but theres definitely some truth to it.
So... relish, various peppers, pickle, tomato, California style with avacado and mango chutney, chili, whatever... but I dont use ketchup anymore. [Reply]
First, you have to start with a quality dog. Usually just mustard and onions are the go to condiments. Maybe a bit of chicago style relish. Only chicago style, ever. If I feel I want something else there are many differents ways I like to top a dog. Baked potato salad topped with green onions, bacon bits, shredded cheddar and a little bit of sour cream is a great way to have a dog. A Chicago dog is always great. Of course you can always try something different, like pulled pork and onion strings with BBQ sauce. Or a cuban, roasted pork, ham, swiss, pickles and mustard. Whatever you do though, never put ketchup or catsup on a dog. That is for children. [Reply]
