Please include any and all absences due to being ill, family emergencies, etc.

Do not include scheduled days off, vacation time, etc.

Poll coming up.

Your sniffles could be my pneumonia. Keep your shit to yourself.

Nope. I'm purposely injecting myself with SARS and coming to everyone's place of work.

Well you can love your job, but be a dedicated person too. Hey, if you're not a person who is sick, it should be at zero. If you get sick, take the time, few bosses will complain. But if you use your sick days as PTO, that means you suck, and bosses usually know when somebody's taking a mental health day (which should be PTO), avoiding work, or just plain using sick days as PTO.

We just have PTO, to be used for both vacation and sick leave. So this isn't a problem for us.

I try to save at least two weeks of PTO for emergencies. I've had surgery the last two years and have needed it.

I'd say about 3.

If you're sick, do yourself and your co-workers a favor and spend a day or two on the couch to get better and not infect everyone else with your cooties. You'll get back to work sooner and more efficient and not cause collateral damage in the process.

The world keeps spinning without out you.

We finally whacked a guy last week who had called off 13 times this year. He may have been legitimately sick for three of those days. I wanted to shitcan him a couple of months ago, but he'd been there forever and was well liked.

I'd see his emails. It's like he had a Ferris Bueller random excuse generator. :-)

Myself and my team have the ability to do 90% of our jobs from home most of the time via phone and internet so maybe my mileage varies but I hate when people show up looking like the walking dead and then put everyone else at risk.

If it becomes a habit that's a different story but if you're sick, you're sick.

To everyone's health! :-)

In this guy's case, I'm pretty sure that he and his personal demons have crawled into a bottle. His work performance went to hell in the past year as well. Had he reached out and admitted he needed help, we would have tried. But even on the way out the door for the last time, he assured us that he had done nothing wrong, he was the hardest work we had, and everybody was out to get him.

It was very sad.
