Nzoner's Game Room>UPDATE: Ford to 49ers for a 2020 2nd round pick. Official.
Dante84 06:19 PM 03-12-2019

More trade news: The #Chiefs are deep in talks with the #49ers on a trade for star pass-rusher Dee Ford, sources say. Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.

The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the #49ers get a deal done with Ford. https://t.co/g4tYK2tWFh

If the 2019 draft were over a 2020 2nd would be worth a 2nd

And what does the Chiefs winning have to do with the 49ers draft choice
If KC is the team everyone here expects it to be, that is, wins 10+ games this coming season, the 2020 second round pick's value is going to be a high 3rd round, yes?

High third round/low 4th round value, who cares? The point is, Ford sucks and was traded for very little value, based on where he was drafted.

That's....dumb.

And what does KC's record have to do with anything?

You are making zero sense. This was a middling return because a 3rd round pick is 'meh' for a premier pass-rusher. But you can't just say 'well it's actually a 4th because 2020 is next season and 2019 hasn't happened yet'...Because that's dumb.

Like really dumb.
Really, really dumb. Doesn’t even begin to make sense.

I'm not sure if you understand how this draft thing even works.

KC winning has absolutely nothing to do with the 49ers draft choice! Are you fucking retarded?

1. A 2020 2nd round pick would the equivalent of a 3rd pick in April.

2. The actual position of the pick will be determined by the 49ers record, not the Chiefs.

Good grief.

I've only followed him since his days at LSU... even then he got abused in pass coverage. But don't take my word for it...

Mathieu serves as an upgrade in coverage for Kansas City, as well. In 2018, his 70.6 coverage grade ranked 38th out of 93 qualifiers at safety. He was targeted heavily – his 70 targets against were third-most among all safeties – but he held up relatively well to that heavy fire. Though he allowed a passer rating of 112.4 into his coverage, Mathieu ended the year in the top five at the position in forced incompletions (8) and total stops in coverage (18).

1) There is a reason he is targeted, and it ain't cause he is good.

2) As a team Houston allowed a passer rating of 92.5

if KC wins 13 games in 2019/20 season and goes to the playoffs and wins one or two games, maybe even makes it to the SB, where will that 2nd round pick be slotted in the 2020 draft?

It will be slotted based on SAN FRANCISCO’S record.

If you are not trolling, I honestly feel very bad that I’ve been so mean in the past.

If I'm not mistaken, the pick "slot" will reflect the Niners' record for next year. Not ours.

I believe that's right. If not, I'm more than willing to be corrected.

His production at such a valuable position is worth a 1 year $16MM commitment. Or, you know, you could pay $18MM for 40/500/3 from a WR. ORRRRR... you could pay $14MM for a safety that is a liability in pass coverage.
