Yeah, I don't wanna be the bearer of bad tidings here or anything, but Mikolas was throwing absolute slop up there yesterday and gave up all of 2 runs through 4.

He was awful. No life on his fastball, no breaking ball to speak of, little command of anything. He had the stuff for one of those "get chased in the 2nd w/ 3 on the board and the bases loaded with 1 out..." kind of days.

Then Martinez kinda dozed through 4 innings of 1 run ball. It was as indifferent a performance as I've seen from a pitcher....ever.

I'd like to see a quality squad so I can blame any of their shortcomings on Mike Matheny but man - that was a 'contender for 1st overall' kind of performance I saw yesterday.

That's a pretty rough roster, laddies...

Yes but those players are the future of the league.

I mean - I would've ultimately assumed Toronto to have a handful of rational actors in it somewhere. I mean hell, they're holding one of the 'hockey bubbles' in Toronto. It's clear that Toronto is happy with how things are progressing or they'd have never allowed that. And hockey is an indoor, contact sport that's far more likely to yield spread, IMO.

Toronto's actions here make little sense and lack internal consistency.
The problem you have there is many countries do not want travel from the US because well our covid numbers are asshole.

Testing among MLB players/personnel has yielded a positivity rate of about .01%

And for the record, the majority of MLB players testing positive contracted it from outside the country (or family members that were outside the country).

But yeah - totally reasonable conclusion to reach by Toronto.

I think it is. I'm not going to tell a country they are wrong because they don't want to play sports live.

The USA is #11 in deaths per 1M in population (and if you don't count tiny countries like San Marino and Andorra then 9th worst).

Canada isn't a ton better at #22. But it's up to their country what they want to do or not.

This probably going to be horrible but we'll see. The beauty of baseball is how hard it is to make the playoffs.

Plus there just aren't that many good teams usually. If we'd had this last year, the 78-84 Texas Rangers would have made the playoffs.

On the flipside, in 2017 the 80-82 Royals, Rays and Angels would have made the playoffs. That's three teams with losing records in the playoffs. If you just look through the standings pretty much every year this change would put teams with losing records in.

I am officially rooting in advance for whichever 26-34 team that inevitably makes the playoffs to win the World Series, because that is our best chance to prevent the abomination of a 16-team baseball postseason from becoming a permanent reality.
