Nzoner's Game Room>Car Care and Detailing Thread
lewdog 10:44 PM 03-07-2015
Others mentioned I should start this thread in my other thread. And while I won't have the new car for a while, I'd like to hear some thoughts and recommendations so I can have most of it on hand before the car shows up. My other thread had a lot of great posts in it and you guys have been a big help.

While black cars looks great clean, keeping it relatively clean in Phoenix might be the death of me. But I'll sure as shit give it my best shot.

I actually like cleaning and waxing our current cars but it's not like I am being meticulous about it. I've never had a car with rims either and I know those can get dirty quick. I've never owned a dark colored car and I've never had a car with leather. I plan to take really good care of this car and would like some tips on doing so. But I'm just a fucking n00b.

I'll throw some links out from Amazon as I mention things.

Some of the things already on my list are:
1. Not sure if everyone recommends :-)wool wash mitt over micorfiber here but many people I know do?
http://www.amazon.com/Mothers-Genuin...wool+wash+mitt

2. Grit guard and two wash buckets. One for rinse and one for soap/water.

http://www.amazon.com/Mothers-Genuin...wool+wash+mitt

3. Waffle Weave Drying towel. There are tons of towels out there but this seems to be able to take up a lot of water.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001Q8DMA0/...I21164SXVV1AWB

4. Car Wash

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009IQXFO/...b_recs_2_title

Some mention that after washing you should use a paint cleanser before waxing. But wondering if washing then clay baring is sufficient prior to wax?

I've seen this P21S Paintwork Cleanser mentioned on a few reads. Looks like good use for water spots and swirls prior to waxing if needed. Not sure if you would do entire car first or just use it for bad spots before waxing?

Also, a company called Zaino has great reviews and recommendations. They have a package that looks like it includes all products I'd need together including wash, polish, wax, leather and tire care.

I do not have a polisher and would need to get one of those as well but not sure where to start on that front.

Can't wait to see what you guys have tried and recommend.

Love that car. And white’s ok I guess but pretty boring. Does it have metallic flecks in it? My wife’s SUV does and it’s actually really pretty when clean.
PROBABLY????

Miles, I got great results on the A-pillar with that 3" plate - thanks for the link - had no issues - kept it slow - used Griot's Garage orange pad - finished w/ Griot's black bad and HD Speed.

I have to say, folks. HD Speed may as well be an orgasm in a bottle.

All you need now to to become a better photographer. Looks great but so do re-builder's in pictures. I looked at a 500SEC on Pewaukee MI that in 12 pictures looked great. In person it ;looked like it was painted outside in a rainstorm.

It would be nice to find a way to post hi-res pictures of before and after.

I am sure it looks great up close and personal. Learning is always fun...On someone else's toys.

I wouldn't say it's ideal for Loochy but others with cars that aren't brand new - HD Speed is a MUST in your arsenal - It's a dream to work with!

No first used M105 then I used HD Speed instead of M205 - read that a lot of people are doing this - it produced great results.

OK you talked me into it. I will check with my local exotic store and see if they have some I can try. I have seen it there as I use their shoop sometimes

I have a 240Z with some (a lot) of mods. (280 block with domed pistons so it's maybe a 2.65 liter. Not a stroker)

I will be working on a Scarlet Red 3 stage urethane PPG acrylic enamel using a 2 part "Centari Perfromance" additive. I did the paint job 15 years ago in my driveway.

Painted with a Croix turbine system and a Simco gravity fed gun.

Sealed with PPG epoxy primer sealer, 3 light coats PPG "red" mixing base with one drop of black in a 1/2 gallon.

2 full coats of the red integrated with high solids urethane clear and then 3
full coats of clear. wet sand to 2000 and polish. Forgot what I used... but I went over it multiple times before glazing.

It has been waxed a lot (Mothers Carnuba) and never had a anything but an random orbital foam pad and real :-)wool mitts. I dry with blower and chamois. I burned a couple of blowers because I filtered the air and caused them to starve and overheat. I think the 6.5 HP Craftsman shop vac (detachable powerhead) was better than my Milwaukee but not cordless.

These are scans of the car with 1 ppic 3 years before the repaint. Yes, I did the air dam and wheel flares. They are hand fabricated.
MAACO race paint job #4 The pic is a Polaroid from 20 years ago.

Test fitting the road wheels 16" infinity wheels bolted right on but looked...

The deep lipped ET style Mags that I hand polished. Mothers again. Note the sanding /compounding stains. I needed some of that yellow bonnet cleaner.
