After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode.
Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates.
Star Wars movies are on haitus after rise of skywalker until December of 2022 if I remember correctly, although I have no idea what that movie is. Kevin Feige is working on something, but that date probably isn't his movie. It's just Disney+ series between now and then as far as I know. There's the Diego Luna series set before Rogue One, there's the Obi Wan series and there's a second season of Mando. And then there's the final season of Clone Wars and whatever animated stuff they do after Resistance ends. [Reply]
Man this just started off hitting all the right buttons. The space western feel, the cantina lawlessness, the cool creatures. The unknown of the main character. I'm really liking everything at this point. When he went to upgrade his armor with the special metal he just procured, I thought that was just about the coolest damn space bounty hunter thing I'd ever seen on screen. Can't wait to see that progress through the series. The choreography is just awesome so far. Witty camera work. And the Yoda species baby.... wow... what a way to start out. I really hate to get ahead of things after just 40 minutes worth, but this already has the makings of the best Star Wars representation since Rogue One.
What is this beskar stuff and why is it so important to Mandalorians?
It’s a kind of metal alloy used in making Mandalorian armor like Boba Fett wore and like the show’s protagonist wears. (That’s how so many strangers are able to tell where the Mandalorian is from before he even opens his mouth.) We see beskar steel in action after the blacksmith melts it down to make a shoulder piece for him. It’s incredibly strong and can even withstand a lightsaber.
In the last scene the blaster light on his mask reminded me of the light on Darth Vader's mask when Palpatine was trying to kill Luke. I think they did it on purpose to convey that he was trying to decide if he was going to be good or evil in that moment. [Reply]

This guy was great in Game of Thrones and Narcos. I have no doubt that he can carry a series like this. Now that I've seen how the series is going to go, (assuming that the pilot is indicative of the quality) I'm a bit stoked to see Mexican Burt Reynolds pull this off. [Reply]
