Nzoner's Game Room>UPDATE: Ford to 49ers for a 2020 2nd round pick. Official.
Dante84 06:19 PM 03-12-2019

More trade news: The #Chiefs are deep in talks with the #49ers on a trade for star pass-rusher Dee Ford, sources say. Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.

The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the #49ers get a deal done with Ford. https://t.co/g4tYK2tWFh

With any luck we can use it on free agent deal for this year

Jones to de should replace him. Then two fatties actually stopping the run in the middle and collapsing pocket. Then draft other de is available.

This is my hope at least.

If you love Dorsey, go root for the Browns. He's made a ton of moves and hasn't won crap. John Dorsey is an offseason warrior!
Im more angry if anything at wasting our time with Sutton. Last year was clearly veach forcing a new D mindset on Sutton that Sutton was completely incapable of handling. Optimistically the path forward is we have a DC who knows what he wants and fits where the NFL is going.

Look at our strategy this year. Spags loves DB's and he asks am awful lot from them. We are emphasizing those. And veach is following his plan. We'll see if it works out. But you can only hold your GM accountable for so much if your coaches don't know what they're doing.

I would imagine that they didn't have the perfect candidate available last year and with Mahomes being a 1st year starter, they thought it would be okay to wait a year for the guy they wanted.

In hindsight, it was a gamble they lost but it makes sense to me. Why replace Sutton with somebody that wouldn't be an improvement?

I'm not even asking for a Luke Kuechly. Just somebody we could depend on to play adequate ILB next to or to replace Derrick Johnson. One would think given his expertise as a player that LB would be a position in which he would be able to spot decent talent.

Why is it that some coaches/GMs just can't seem to grasp or build up things that are their supposed expertise? John Elway doesn't know QBs. Dorsey doesn't know LBs. Brian Billick could never get a decent offense going in Baltimore.
He never tried.

5 years he used 2 4ths and 2 5ths on ILBs.

Nico Johnson, Ramik Wilson, DJ Alexander and Ukeme Eligwe.

Shit fellas, Wilson played 16 games and started 4 last season. Eligwe and Alexander were ST flyer candidates and DJ hit in a big way. Nico Johnson was a bust at the top of the 4th; a top 100 pick you'd like to have seen more out of for sure. Gerald Hodges was available and would've obviously been a better pick.

But again - 5 years and 1 real swing and miss at the position? That's not bad. Especially when said swing was a 3rd day pick.

What y'all are calling an aptitude issue is more of a priority matter. He just didn't prioritize some of this stuff as much as you'd like. And I can't say that I blame him - he was trying to rebuild an offense that Pioli had let fall to complete shit and I'd say he did a pretty damn nice job in that regard.

But there are only so many fingers to plug the damn here and there were a LOT of holes on that roster. With the complete lack of roster depth and advancing age of some of they key pieces he inherited, he did a pretty damn stellar job.

I am truly and sincerely amazed at the love Dee Ford is getting in this thread-thing.

Breaking up is hard to do, I guess. I'm having difficulty remembering all this admiration and respect when he was a Chief.

Just because Veach helped make the Mahomes pick doesnt mean he is going to be a good GM. That's great he helped make that pick but there is more than one position in football.

The jury is still out on this Veach. Hopefully all the moves he is making work out and our D improcves this year but I'm not going to sit here and be like 'well he was the scout who got us Mahomes so he is going to be the best GM ever!'

I'm not complaining or trying to shit on Dorsey right now, even. I'm just making an observation about his scouting strengths.
The Reggie Ragland get speaks volumes. That's a classic Rex Ryan move. In a world where lbs are getting faster, Sutton wanted a slow as hell plodder.

Ramik Wilson hasn't been terrible in stl. Eligwe is still usable. Id bet terrance Smith and odaniel would do much better in a scheme that uses their speed. Hell, Hitchens was a serial underperformer last year. Is a bad scheme misusing decent enough players? And was it forcing the GM to seek out the wrong kinds of LB's?

What in Veach's history leads you to believe he'd have been able to do the same thing?

Veach is an excellent scout and deserves credit for being on Mahomes before other teams. But Dorsey's the guy who made that trade happen and is the reason Patrick Mahomes is a chief.
100% speculation on your part. We don't know exactly who all was involved in getting the deal done or that Veach couldn't have pulled it off. We are talking about Buffalo here, he wasn't negotiating with NE.

How could Veach be the best GM ever when everybody knows that was John Dorsey. :-)

You have always been one of my favorite Planeteers, Mr. DJ's left nut. I've always respected your observations and perspectives. But dude ... come on nah ...

This, right here, is a little over the top.

Not the Pioli part, that part's spot on.

Oh fucking horse shit. Jut because Veach "discovered" him (that was his job afterall) doesn't mean Dorsey wasn't. False narrative that's nothing more than an excuse to throw shade at Dorsey and hype Veach.

CHunt has said repeatedly, over and over and over again, that it was a full team decision. Everyone was on board.

Veach identified the talent. (well duh, he was director of player personnel)

Andy put him through the ringer and gave him the stamp of approval.

Dorsey executed a masterful trade to get it done.
