We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.
If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

I mean, maybe.
But there isn't much of anything in terms of free agents left and we haven't heard much smoke about any trades etc.
Having some open cap space isn't the worst thing I guess [Reply]
I'd almost guarantee that a Hill extension isn't going to happen this offseason now. Maybe they go into the draft and look to just roll a bunch of that cap space over into next season. [Reply]

He may also have been trying to clear some decks for a Hill extension that's now been effectively scratched for the next several weeks/months.
Perhaps they went into the offseason knowing this was a potential problem, but it doesn't seem likely. Based on the timelines involved it appears more likely that they had an off-season of clearing the books to take care of their own in mind.
And after step 1 was well underway, step 2 got blown out of the water. Perhaps the money to DL was so extreme that Jones backed away from extension talks. And obviously the Hill thing is what it is.
There are still some viable reasons why Veach was clearing this space that AREN'T for a big tag/trade move. [Reply]

Apparently I'm an idiot for thinking that because the hill and jones extensions do very little to the cap in 2019 since its an extension not a new contract?

Or so that's what I think I was told.
They won't do much to the cap in '19 unless you intentionally frontloaded some stuff.
But what they would have created is substantial cap credits for 2020 that can be used to deal with some massive raises next year.
Folks, I don't think we understand just how much more money we're going to have to load into the cap the next 2-3 years and how little we have coming off. Watkins is the only obvious bit of heavy lifting we can do to clear space. The rest of these guys are getting paid at/near their market value. Perhaps you can replace LDT but hell, LDT's deal's well under market for a player of his caliber, provided he can stay healthy. And people still forget about the screaming bargain we're getting on Schwartz. You can't just cut Fisher either.
This caps gonna get nasty if we can't find a way to funnel a little more money into it and banking some 2019 cap credits can pay off in a big way over the next 3-4 years. [Reply]

Sure, but who do you really see making the bank breaking deal, other than the obvious one under center?
Jones will get a big deal i'd think but is Fuller gonna really get that big of a deal? I don't see all the big deals your talking about. [Reply]

If you factor in that they don't sign anyone else to a major contract.....we'll be at $58 million in cap space for 2020. If Watkins misses games again this coming season....he's more than likely gone....which puts us at $72 million. I think at that point....you work out new deals for Hill (if he's still here), Jones and an extension for Schwartz. Get Mahomes a new deal in 2021. [Reply]
