I often joke with friends that Mario is the most bloodthirsty ref in the UFC, he's the very last guy who will ever stop a fight, you've got to be damn near dead before he'll start verbally warning you to fight back. He had the co-main between Valentina Shevchenko and some Brazilian girl called up from the B-leagues, and it was immediately obvious that this was going to be a one-sided beating.
Valentina got full mount 2 or 3 times, and a freaking crucifix position twice, and Mario calmly stood there and watched her beat the Brazilian chick into a bloody pulp. It got so bad the crowd was boo'ing a non-stoppage, even though it was their fighter getting beat. You could even see Valentina getting tired from punching, so she finally grabbed a neck and mercifully ended the fight.
The final punch stats were, and this is not a joke: 217 to 1. (Dana said 230-3 but it was worse than that)
Dana White was also not happy.
Priscilla Cachoeira, you showed so much heart and toughness in that fight. I’m honored to have you fight in the UFC. Unfortunately the ref is there to protect you and Mario DID NOT do that. This isn’t his first disgusting... https://t.co/z6eJWuKuME
I watched it and I just couldn't believe he didn't step in. She was getting blasted so much it stopped being entertaining. The choke was a mercy move. [Reply]
This weekend brings us what will hopefully be on paper the worst PPV of the year.
Thursday
7:30 pm - (Fightpass) - Island Fights 46
What the hell is this shit? Boxing on fightpass? Nope, moving on.
Saturday
7pm TV - (5:30 pm Fightpass/7pm FS1/9pm PPV) - UFC 221, Romero vs. Rockhold
LOL
Look at that fucking PPV card. This slate of 12 fights in Australia might be mildly interesting with a cool fight at the end if it was a free Fight Night on FS1. It'd be below average for free TV, but eh, whatever I've watched worse.
I don't watch illegal streams and I'm not paying for this shit, so I'll just take a break from MMA this weekend. Since I'm crapping on the card I'm sure it'll end up being epic with crazy fights, and if that happens then I might watch it on fightpass in a couple months, but as a hardcore UFC fan who watches almost every fight, I'm out. I won't even watch the prelims so as to avoid the temptation to see this PPV which isn't even worth the drive to a bar. (since there's snow on the roads anyway, maybe I would have done it in the summer) [Reply]
Romero is a real piece of shit, after watching him sit on the stool for 2 minutes against Tim Kennedy I can't see paying to watch him headline a card. [Reply]
The current rumor for UFC 222 is Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya (who Evinger destroyed in Invicta), and a co-main of Edgar vs. Ortega. This might be a decent Fight Night, but PPV?
I have never just outright skipped 2 consecutive PPV's since I started seriously watching the sport. The UFC is going to test me next month. [Reply]

That is flat terrible. Did Holloway drop out? [Reply]

yes, Holloway is hurt. The UFC even followed up with Nate Diaz to see if he wanted to save the card, but no dice.
Fortunately (knock on wood) right now UFC 223 looks terrific, so if worst comes to worst, my UFC PPV boycott shouldn't last longer than 2 events. [Reply]

This dreadful rumor has now become official. Cyborg opened up as a hilariously lopsided (by MMA standards) favorite at -1000 [Reply]

A couple hours ago, Marc Goddard decided his life didn't have enough frustration and conflict, so he inexplicably decided to tweet this out. Its going about as well as you'd expect.
Is there anything currently in this life as pathetically sickening as gender neutrality? At first I laughed it off as a joke, then it became serious. It’s literally everywhere now. The pussification of mankind continues. Or should that be personkind? Makes me sick.
We're due for a good weekend after the shit the UFC has been shoveling at us, and hopefully this weekend will deliver. I assume the wonky Sunday night is to strategically avoid some kind of big olympic event or something.
I was also putting together the schedule early since those wacky Alaskans are throwing another Wednesday card at us again this week, and noticed that holy cow UFC Fightpass is working overtime this weekend. So, here we go...
Wednesday
11pm - (Fightpass) - AFC 137
Lol, oh my. This card sucks even for Alaska, the only reason to watch it is because its Wednesday. If you want mismatches between guys with losing records vs veterans and lots of fighters who have literally never fought before, then your in luck, this is your event.
Friday
6pm - (Fightpass) - Titan FC 48
This is probably the top B-league promotion below Bellator, and the last 4 fights all feature guys who look like they may be close to reaching the highest level.
7:30pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 50
This is kickboxing. Normally thats cool, but there is so much going on Friday that this seems kinda pointless if you are a MMA fan. I assume the UFC is contractually obligated to stream this.
8pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 194, Nelson vs. Mitrione 2
This card is really good by Bellator's standards. The first few televised fights are nothing special, but the last 3 (tune in about 9-9:30 pm) are really good, and the main event is yet another round of Bellator's freakshow grand prix tournament.
Saturday
1pm - (Fightpass) - Polaris 6
I can't find any details on this on tapology, and its not even clear to me which combat sport this is. So... there you go.
7pm - (Fightpass) - EBI 15: The Featherweights
EBI is always good. I'm looking forward to watching this instead of seeing who can slide down a hill faster on NBC.
Sunday
6pm TV - (4:30 pm Fightpass/6pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Cerrone vs Medeiros
And finally we reach the UFC card, and oh hell yeah this is a good one by free TV standards. The prelims are not special, but barring any weight cutting disaster the entire main card should be great, I'm looking forward to all 6 fights. [Reply]
