Nzoner's Game Room>2019 Free agency Thread
O.city 03:24 PM 02-05-2019
We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

Since he missed all of last season, any games played incentives would be considered 'unlikely to be earned'.

So they wouldn't hit the cap immediately. If he ended up playing those games, they'd be added after the season as a cap charge and if it created a deficit they would be carried forward into next season.

If you could get him on an incentive laden deal, that would be a pretty sweet setup. You don't have to forward pay any of them and you'd only be 'charged' for games he played after the fact.

Your bias is showing.
A raw player that at least had elite tools?

You can't deny Ford's speed and first step are elite. What tool does speaks have that's even above average that we know of?

Speaks has a nice Strahan style diastema.

What tools does he need? He already exceeded Ford's first season. If he gets 5 sacks next year, he did better than Ford again.

Elite tools don't count for squat if they don't produce results, something Ford only did in 2 of his 5 seasons. He's SUCH a great player. I can't believe they let him go!

Physically capable.

Ford showed tools but no technique. Fisher showed tools and technique but a bad base that made it all come apart.

Speaks showed nothing. What actual talent did you see from him? He has limited functional strength and poor athleticism. He has no technique at all. He's just there. He's a watered down version of Allen Bailey. If you took Bailey and locked him in a room for 6 months while giving him nothing but junk food, you'd have Speaks. Take all of Bailey's good mass and his functional strength, then convert it to just empty bulk and you have Speaks.

He is an above average run defender. He has also made some nice moves with his hands to get by tackles.

This will be an interesting take to revisit in 2-3 years. Speaks a few times showed decent instincts, but damn he looked pathetic in space. I don’t know what to think, you are usually pretty reliable on your sports takes, but damn I hope you’re dead fucking wrong this time.

Not enough hyperbole. Need more hyperbole.

I think we wait until he's in his comfort area 4/3 like he played in college, prior to judgement.

Go watch NE or Jax games.

Speaks can beat tackles, he’s just too slow to get there in time
