We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.
If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.
I made a point to just watch him on a bunch of snaps, he does nothing. He has no pass rush moves, he has no ability to handfight. His first step is trash so he can't go up and under, his feet and worth a shit.
He did one thing - he attempted to bull rush. And he's nowhere near strong enough to do that effectively. I can't recall when he got his sacks but I'd bet you anything it was either a blown blocking assignment or a coverage sack where he just eventually slid off and chased a QB down.
He was terrible last season. Just god-awful. And he showed no physical tools or technique that suggest he won't be terrible going forward. If you stuck his ass in the draft this season he'd be a 5th round pick.
Say he was out of position if you want (because he was) but that doesn't excuse the fact that even when he got into a blocker, which is where he will ALWAYS be as a 4-3 DE, he simply had no plan when he got there or no ability to do anything about it.
If you still think he'll be a good player it's based on nothing but blind faith and hope because he provided absolutely nothing last season to support that. There were street free agents that could've given us more than Breeland Speaks did last season. [Reply]
I've seen a couple of people say 3.6M for Verrett would be ok if it was incentive heavy. What exactly does that mean on a 1 year deal in terms of cap space? If he gets hurt and plays no games, do you get an extra 3.6 to use the next season or does it just save Clark 4 mil? If it's the latter, who gives a shit? [Reply]
