It's a wonder why these two teams are struggling.
Well when you go into big league camp with only 4 OFers on the roster and your GM is so paralyzed by fear of losing another player off his 40-man after getting de-pantsed in the rule 5 by the Padres the last two years, you have to make due with a guy that wasn't exactly tearing up A ball before getting promoted all the way to the majors sometimes. I mean afterall, if he put Bader on the 40 man, he might screw up and end up losing another guy somehow. He's taking the same approach to roster management as I take to an angry wife - "I think I'll just go to the workshop and pretend this isn't happening..."
Jeremy Hazelbaker had a .900+ OPS before being demoted to AAA where he's putting up an OPS of 1.050. He was a very solid pinch hitter and versatile defensive OFer for us last year but we friggen cut the guy outright to make room on the 40 man for Anthony Garcia, who we have since DFA'd. Also of interest is that we lost Cordoba in the Rule 5 for the same reason and we're somehow playing with only 38 guys on the 40-man right now.
Because this entire organization is run by fucking retards. [Reply]
You should look at his launch angle. It's orders of magnitude more severe than pretty much any hitter in baseball right now.
He's launching everything straight skyward. His swing is just all sorts of fucked up and he spends every AB behind in the count. Because according to Dan, "Carpenter loves hitting with 2-strikes"....
We know Dan, you tell us this 3 times/gm and usually right before he strikes out again.
This whole team's a fucking trainwreck and we lack the coaching chops anywhere on the staff to fix them. When you have to ship Grichuk to A ball to find someone that might resonate with him (and invariably our players perform their best straight out of the minors, before this player development staff can get their hands on them), perhaps it's time to change the mix in the dugout a bit, wouldn't you say?
But it won't happen because DeWitt is gutless and rich. [Reply]
Lester threw to first and Maddon didn't pinch hit for Schwarber with the bases loaded!
Had to watch the Cardinals broadcast for the game and no one seemed to blame Pham for a base running error. If you are taking a 20+ foot lead daring Lester to throw to first the last thing you do is actually run back to first when he throws. Need to be running to 2nd on first movement. Tim even said that it was worth it... Huh? It was the 3rd out of the inning. How is that worth it? [Reply]
I just don't understand what exactly the plan is there. The typical lead is like 12 feet. He's inching his way to 20 and he has absolutely no intention of stealing second. Hell... he barely has intention of going back to first when Lester steps off. It's not until the ball is in the air on its way to first that he has that oh shit moment and tries to scurry back to the bag but its far too late. [Reply]
