Some #s on the Tyrann Mathieu deal: The contract includes a $14.8 million signing bonus, and his base salary of $11.1 million in 2020 is guaranteed as well, bringing his total guarantees over the three-year, $42 million deal to $26.8 million.

There would still be about $5 million in dead money in year 3; 1/3 of his signing bonus.

My guess is they consider an extension if things go really well the first two years.
Yeah; convert that year 3 salary to bonus and tack 2 years on the end would be a pretty likely scenario.
So you take a $14 million salary, drop the base to 4, add a $12 million signing bonus w/ base salaries of 12 and 16 thereafter.
So that knocks his year 3 cap hit to $13 million (base, remaining 1st SB + the restructure bonus) w/ hits at 14 and $20 million in the 2 extra years.
Full 5 year contract at that point would be what, 5/$69? With a pretty makeable escape hatch there at the back that does it at 4/$53.
I think I got that right. Hard to keep track of that shit when you're renegotiating deals but that all seems about right and not terribly unreasonable until year 5.
