I would have to add to this that I'm the Pacific Regional Manager for my company so I don't really get those days off (or any others really), I just don't go to work. Today, Saturday, is my day off and I just spent some time this morning approving timesheets before we go out for brunch. I also get calls at all hours of the day and night. But I don't go in when I'm sick and make other people sick. [Reply]

I'm self employed...I have people depending on me. Unless it's really bad, I have to show up. Better to be sent home and willing to work, than to call and not show. It's a complaint I've heard from clients over and over, through the years. [Reply]
Timeliness is important in some functions of my business and that periodically requires me to put on my big boy shorts and toughen up.

I'm talking 1 or 2 days off a year. Not dragging out by calling off every day you feel sick like some people who miss a week of work for the common cold. [Reply]
Eh. I have no idea. If i had to guess, i miss about 10 days or less a year due to either getting sick, doctors appointment or a family event such as a graduation, school play etc. But i more than make up for those days with non scheduled hours that i work pretty much every week. And i'm salaried so.... [Reply]
I took 7 this year. A very high number for me. We get PTO. Knee surgery. Florida and moving kid home from college. I have rarely taken that much time off.
But I only "work 180 days." Damn teachers. [Reply]

I can't complain at all......having said that I have missed 1 day sick this year.
One day with a stomach virus that pretty much ate me up for a day....but luckily we can carry over sick time as long as it doesn't accumulate past a certain number of hours. [Reply]

It does have it’s benefits. I’ve been with the same employer since 94 and get 6 weeks of vacation each year, plus holidays. I should get another week next year. We just don’t get sick time and they put something in our file if we ever call in sick. I’ve only called in sick once during my entire time there, but I have gone to work sick several times. [Reply]

You’re endangering others, especially those who are immuno-compromised. [Reply]
