I' m really really hoping this film delivers the goods and after seeing the trailer a number of more times , I honestly think it will. For one, Joaquim Phoenix is VERY selective with the projects he chooses (esp at this stage of his career). Really hyped for this film!
I’m guessing it won’t make Wonder Woman money. Especially not being connected to the rest of the universe (from my admittedly limited understanding).
I think the tone and subject matter might drive some popcorn-type money away. It might also catch heat because mental illness is a pretty hot button issue at the moment.
But it looks like it does it right. Shit looks heavy as hell. [Reply]

Yep. This one appears to have a limited audience available. The kids that go see the comic book movies won't have any interest in this one.
Not because it isn't a well made, deep-dive character study that aptly probes the darkness but because of it. [Reply]

I think it signals a current appetite for more human-level comic narratives.
Kind of like, even when Guns and Roses was putting out the pinnacle of Sunset Strip Hair Band Metal, there was a huge lurking appetite for muted gritty garage band Nirvana.
Today's superhero movies are about the best they've ever been, but there's a burnout eventually on even the sheer perfection and strenuously curated awesomeness. And an appetite for grit and grime and pathos creeps in. [Reply]

Teaser trailers rarely do. It’s all about generating tone and general vibe. A longer more story detailed trailer will appear a few months down the line. [Reply]

I generally agree, but I think the Joker is a rare exception. His entire persona relies on being a total mystery. He's pure id, chaotic and unreasonable. His motives always shift and his behavior is erratic enough to stymie the world's greatest detective. Explaining how he got there kind of ruins the fun in some ways.
That said, The Killing Joke gave him a backstory and it managed to be one of the best Batman stories ever written so... :-)
I think a whole movie of him becoming the Joker is pretty unnecessary, but I love Joaquin Phoenix and the trailer looks good so I'm in. Of course I'm the kind of fan that likes when movies do crazy stuff with established characters. All that matters to me is if it's a good movie or not. [Reply]

yeah This seems like a natural fit for actor and part.
As far as this is his only one....this makes a billion $’s, they offer him $100 million for #2, who’s turning that down? [Reply]
Perhaps Im confused by the "DC" label, but is this Batman's Joker? This seems unrelated, and I was sort of under the impression Joker's origin story was intentionally never determined. [Reply]
