I trash Matheny as much as anyone in here but the reason it was uncomfortably close, for this game anyway, was all on Holland.

Are there Players association rules that you can only keep a veteran player in the minors "X" number of days after a signing?
The article today says the Cards need Hollands permission to send him to the minors.
From just a selfish perspective, Holland should want this. He thought he was going to get a big payday. As of right now, he's not even going to get an average contract next year. He needs to go down and get right for just his own benefit. [Reply]

I believe he could have stayed down longer after his initial signing, but isn’t able to go down now unless it’s a rehab assignment. [Reply]
