Media Center>Star Wars: Rebels

And here's our replacement for Clone Wars. Coming to Disney XD in fall 2014. Bridges the gap between Eps 3 and 4. Looks...very cool. Conceptually.

Bit more detail:

The series will mine material from the 19 years that follow Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and precede the Episode IV: A New Hope. In other words, using the life of the Skywalker twins as a measure, the series will be active in the story years that come after their separation as newborns and before their (unwitting) reunion on the prison level of the Death Star.

No word on whether the show will feature Darth Vader (who would be in the Empire’s power consolidation years and earning his reputation) or even pull in a character like Han Solo, the smuggler and cynic who becomes an unlikely freedom fighter when he opts to stand with his friends against cosmic odds. The title of the show is vaguely phrased in a way that any rebel — even a Boba Fett or Ahsoka Tano might qualify as a title character merely by walking an outsider’s path.

The series has three executive producers: Dave Filoni, the point man on The Clone Wars animated series that launched in 2008; screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg, who has a flair for tonal rewiring and energizing familiar brands with new edge (e.g.: X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes); and Greg Weisman, whose credits include well-regarded work on Young Justice and The Spectacular Spider-Man.

I certainly hope this isn't the last season because this show is just getting good.

You can certainly debate that Clone Wars and now Rebels have far surpassed any of the movies. Both shows have been just that good.

Dave Filoni has stated that Rebels will go at least 4 seasons but there will be a new animated series after Rebels ends.

I have no idea how long Rebels can go, especially after Rogue One, but my best guess for the next series is that it'll be set somewhere between VI & VII.

There's a lot to mine in that 30 years.

Those are cool. The third one down showing a bounty hunter presumably giving Luke's hand to two Royal Guardsmen is pretty wicked.

So are we to presume that this season of Rebels will finish at the onset of the Rogue One movie?

And you're right - tons of storytelling to be had between RotJ and TFA.

I would assume that at least the first half of Season 3 would end just before Rogue One, with the second half maybe filling in the details of what happened with the Rebellion after the destruction of the Death Star. Otherwise, it would be out of sync and odd.

Could we see Luke Skywalker in Season 4?

Yeah, it could be really interesting.

sorry to derail, but...

as a young adult, i had a series of star wars books post return of the jedi. i seem to recall that leia had twins. has it already been discussed whether those twins were ren and rey in the force awakens?

This is one of the absolute best pieces of Star Wars art I've ever seen. The rancor keeper still sad, leaving Jabba's with his baby rancor. :-)

Apparently ED exists in a universe far far away, because that looks like a damn Cialis advert.

It seems like they're trying to make the Force to be more ambiguous, like it was in the OT, as opposed to the PT, which tried to define it.

I like the direction they're taking.
