I'm not sure it'll matter with the Orioles, but we don't exactly know what the divisions are going to look like yet. Given that it might be some kind of NL/AL East hybrid, I imagine they'll still have a hard time. [Reply]

No animal, computer, man or deity will EVER stare into the middle distance with a clenched jaw like Mike Matheny.
Ever.
My God y'all just don't understand what you have in that guy right there. Is your catcher engaged in a physical confrontation with the opposing batter, opposing manager AND the umpire? Oh don't you worry - Mikey Dreamboat's gonna stand on that top step with his arms crossed and a steely-eyed 1,000 foot glare that would make Zoolander blush.
Your young SP on the ropes and starting to elevate - glare.
Your middle reliever is pitching for the 3rd time in 4 days with a 1-run lead in extras immediately after returning from the DL and now he's in so much pain that he is visibly altering his delivery from pitch to pitch to find something that doesn't cause crippling agony before ultimately settling on 'lets shotput this thing up there'? Oh yeah - he's gonna glare the FUCK out of it while said reliever flips an 84 mph cockshot for a 2-run bomb that costs you a needed win.
Nobody stares into the beyond while appearing to be passing a kidney stone during a baptism like Mike Matheny.
Take heed and be suitably awed, boys and girls. You will not be disappointed. [Reply]

I only have 3 things I need hin to do to not disappoint me.
1. Get us the number 1 overall pick
2. Don't be one of the main reasons why a player gets injured
3. Be so incompetent that he gets himself fired, but not the type of incompetence that ruins a pitchers arm.
2 and 3 will be pretty well impossible. He's going to ruin someone's arm and there are very few things he can do to get fired, cuz Dayton is a fucking idiot and will hang onto him for at least 3 years [Reply]

Glenn Sparkman seems like the guy who’s going to get his arm ruined. Just a hunch. [Reply]

Who are your the best relievers? Does one throw hard, one lefthanded and the other is a ‘ground ball specialist’ who’s inability to get strikeouts is mistaken as ‘having a rubber arm’? Because if so, all three of those guys are fucked.
Starters might stay healthy - he didn’t burn up too many of them because he can just set them on a rotation and go play chess. [Reply]
MLB owners are so upset by the players’ counterproposal — which is said for about $300M more — that no response is expected to be immediate. Time is obviously getting short so hopefully it’s not too long, of course.

Sparkman throws pretty hard, and is a younger non-prospect. I think a Rosenthal and Holland are going to be the “veteran” back end guys.
KEVIN McCarthy fits that “groundball guy” role.
And Richard Lovelady, sadly, fits that lefty role. [Reply]
Fantastic article here (pasted from the WSJ) about the Royals and how much sway they had with UDFA’s after announcing they were paying their minor leaguers. Lot of bitter execs from other teams due to the Royals decision:

So will the games be played in each teams home stadium? or are they still looking to quarantine somewhere like Arizona or Florida and play all the games there? [Reply]
