Nzoner's Game Room>The Motorcycle Discussion Thread
Dayze 11:41 AM 06-07-2013
I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

overall here in KC on 1/26, it 'looked' warmer than it was. I did about 130 Miles, and man....about 35miles into it, i realized it was much cooler than I thought. Thankfully, today I bought one of those 'tubes' that can be used as a baclacava and 'bandana' and neck warmer. I rode with it like a bandana, and my wife advised I don't go in anywhere with my gear on since I looked like a damned bank robber.

two weekends ago when I went to the bike show, I wore nothing (around my face, you sick bastards), and have major wind burn at 35 degrees. Never experiencing wind-burn, I felt like a killer sun burn.

This 'tube' was great. I was a very elastic type material etc. Didn't do shit for the cold, but did an excellent job of wind protection. Not bad for $9. Wind wasn't 'too' bad, but the wind and gusts were more prevelent up north for most of the day. So, my body is a little tired.

Pavement was good considering it's right after 'winter' (in the traditional sense); not a lot of sand, pot holes etc. Nice little ride. I can't wait until it's freaking warmer than 50 degrees and no/minimal wind.

Lots of bikes out today; primarily street and road glides etc. Lots of looks on the state highways of "what the F is a dude on a sportster doing out here".

Had my first 'fuel scare' of the year. Riding out from KC from Lenexa w/out a fuel stop, and getting in the VEry rural areas.....with no damn 'towns' etc. Started to have a little panic not knowing with the next fuel option was at. But found a nice convenient place in Orrick MO and O Highway coming from the West right at 45 Miles from my house to top off. From the Lenexa JB's to Orrick was right at 45 on the nose.

210 from 435j east bound to O highway was boring as all shit. all straight, no scenery etc. Though I ran it because of the 'loop' back to 210 by Worlds fo Fun. Next time I'll take 210 to "JJ" I think, to H North, to 10 hwy East, to O highway south, then bang a u-turn and run it again. 210 SUCKs ass east bound past JJ.

Good ride overall, but by the time I rode from Lenexa to Orrick; fill up, then to JJ/210 , I was sort of 'bone cold'. Not a shivering cold, but just an overall cold. So i warmed up with a small sammich and a big chew/ dip hanging out by the bike. Rode from there back through 210/Armour to 35 south to 119th & I35 to my brothers house to have a beer or two.

Great ride. Anytime someone's up for it, I'll post next time I"ll run it and we can meet either in Lenexa (or wherever), or 210/435 gas station.

Finally pulled the trigger on most of my upgrades.

Ignition relocation
Coil relocation
Key relocation. (Relocated to between the battery box and rear cylinder. )
Wire tuck

Cobra 3" slip ons. Have adjustable tips that can be rotated into 3 positions. And also allows for after market tips.

XiEDs fuel enrichment
Arlen Ness big sucker air cleaner.

Next up in a couple of months are 14" ape handlebars
Cable and wire extension kit
White coke bottle grips
Relocate turn signals from the bars, to the forks
Possible speedo relocation.
Front fork lowering kit
Rear shock

Hopefully it'll be here by next weekend so I can start the transformation . I'll be sure to post pics of it.

I have an 06 Honda CBR 600 orange with black tribal flames..hopefully in a couple months I will have a Victory Hardball or Crossroads

I had an 08 600rr that was orange and black. No flames though.

After years of sport bikes, I absolutely love the harley. There's something about it I can't put my finger on. Of course, I'm a bit older now and don't crave speed as much so that probably has alot to do with it.

I want something to get on and ride all day and not have to stop so much..getting on and riding all day is a great stress reliever for me

I agree.
Initially I thought my small tank might be an issue, but overall it hasn't. by the time my fuel light pops on, I'm ready to have a stop, stretch the legs a bit, etc.

The only thing that sort of sucks is if I wanted to ride down to see my dad in AR, I'd have to plan my route pretty much based on fuel ranges per tank etc. But oh well.

I can't wait for the stuff to arrive. Since I can't ride, it'll be nice to get out there and tinker around with it. Plus, I'm anxious to see how she sounds with the new slip-ons; and I'm eager to see how she'll run once she's able to breathe with the new A/C.

Bikes rule.

Figured I'd move this over here to keep from cluttering that other thread.

Nice man. Are you putting this all in yourself? I'm too much of a chicken shit to do that stuff myself. Cosmetics? no problem.. .but when I start fooling with the functioning parts of the engine... I don't have that type of confidence in myself.

BTW, I went to the Black Label Cycles place and the guys there are very cool. They are one of the few in the area that have the capabilities to create a custom mold and fabricate a fairing from scratch. We're gonna work on getting one put together this spring... I just gotta get the bike out there for measurements, and seeing how the weather is being....

Sweet, I haven't done any of mine yet. Got obsessed with cars this winter and have way too many rigs now. Won't due the bike till I sell the expedition.

Goodies arrived today (sans pipes; supposed to be here tomorrow). JFC, I was driving myself nuts trying to decide on all the different stuff. I had rat-holed some coin and could basically get about 80% of what I wanted. Then it was a matter of picking what I wanted first etc. Don’t even get me started on pipes/ exhaust. I finally just had to make a decision because I was driving myself nuts.

I was REALLY wanting to get bars and lower the bike (either by struts or shocks in the rear, and a front fork lowering kit). But I decided to go with some other cosmetics.
-3” Tank Lift
-Wire Tuck
-Ignition and Coil relocation
-Hi Flo A/C
-Cobra 3” slip-ons
-XiED

Next up is the bars I suspect. Bars and cable/wiring extension kit will probably run total about $300 I suspect. (if memory serves). I’m going to run 14” internal wire narrow glide apes on her; I believe my stock bars are 10”. I think I could get away with running 12”s and not needing an extension kit, so I still ‘might’ go that route. But the 14”s look killer with a tank lift.

Surprisingly, lowering kits are pretty reasonable. I have yet to determine if I’m going to run struts with a springer seat. I love the looks of the springer seats, but I just can’t bring myself to rock one AND have shocks. My brain won’t let me. Lol. So, that’s another decision I’m sure I’ll drive myself nuts with. Rear struts specifically are dirt cheap. I’m not so concerned with the ride going in a straight line etc, but I wonder what impact it will have during curves etc at speed given the rebound and dampening would be gone.

Hopefully I’ll get all the shit installed this weekend. I’m going to take pictures of the process along the way so I’ll post a few on here. .

Yeah, I plan too. I've never done it, so we'll see lol. I think everything but installing bars and extending the throttle, clutch cable, and wiring will be fine. I 'think'.lol.

Where is Black Label Cycles located? I think I remember you said you were in Lenexa? (I am)

Install wasn’t ‘too’ bad. Fairly straight forward. A few things that made me want to blow a fuse:
1. Removing the slip-ons. Specifically the rear. What the **** Harley…..those might have been slip-ons at one point, but they’re definitely not ‘slip-offs’. Probably an hour of hammering of an aluminum bung on the bottom to break it free….. The 2nd slip-on wasn’t nearly as bad, but it appeared not to be a slip-off as well.
2. “The Bolt”. The bolt that attached the new ignition relocation bracket to the inside / rear of the primary. This literally, took me 2-3 hours. Having the bolt repeatedly fall onto the primary when trying to start threading it on other side through the rear cylinder. Only to find out, that it’s damn near impossible to retrieve. Retrieved a few times, but ultimately my lovely wife ended up helping by lending her tiny hands/fingers to grab it and get the thread started. Holy shit it was a pain in the ass.
3. Feel like someone beat on the top of my legs with a baseball bat from sitting down, and standing up probably 1000 times. I could barely walk this morning lo. YAY! For being out of shape.
Reattached all the wiring harnesses, put the main fuse back in place, and it fired right up on the first turn of the motor. Score!

….not so fast my friend (as Lee Corso would say). Now it is idling very fast. I pulled the problem code from the speedometer in troubleshooting mode. “P0505” – Loss of Idle Speed Control. Joy. Removed air cleaner and backing plate so only the throttle body was exposed. Fired it up – same thing. Apparently there is a way to reset the ECM with a certain pattern of turning the ignition on/off, but I haven’t tried it yet. Other than that, I can only thing of a vacuum issue that’s throwing the code. I do have XiED fuel enrichment / O2 Sensor by-pass I can install, but I don’t think that impacts it since I wasn’t getting any Lean fuel / O2 issue codes.

Despite the issue – the new air cleaner really sucks in the air ( you can hear it), and the new pipes sound awesome. I definitely won’t be sneaking up on anyway. Nice deep rumble. Sounds like a Harley now that all the factory/EPA restrictive shit is gone. It also ‘feels’ like a Harley when sitting on it.
