After countless shortlist stories and rumors concerning who would play Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the search for the lead role is finally over, and fittingly the actor is someone who never appeared on any of the aforementioned lists. Deadline reports that Chris Pratt has been tapped to play Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, a character who was born of a human mother and alien father, and is a master strategist and combat expert who wears an ability-enhancing suit and pilots a psychically-linked ship. As Guardians features a cast of strange and cosmic characters, Quill was an important role to fill because he will likely act as the audience’s introduction to the vast, unfamiliar Guardians world. Hit the jump for more.
There were plenty of actors rumored for the role that made a lot of sense (John Krasinski, Zachary Levi, etc.), and Deadline notes that Marvel made test deals with Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne, but Chris Pratt actually seems like a perfect fit. His comic timing is excellent as evidenced by his work on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and he’s shown his talent on the dramatic side with Moneyball and 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty, for which he also proved that he can beef up for a role if need-be.
Looking back on the previous shortlists and taking Pratt into consideration, it’s clear that writer/director James Gunn is planning on injecting a good amount of humor into Guardians of the Galaxy. A rumor surfaced recently that Marvel was looking at possibly tapping Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler to do voice work in the film (one of the guardians is a talking raccoon), so I’m interested to see the tone that Gunn settles on for the finished film.
With the role of Star-Lord secure, Gunn and Marvel now look to filling out the rest of the cast, which includes the powerful Drax the Destroyer, a giant tree named Groot, the aforementioned Rocket Raccoon, and the female lead Gamora. The story is also rumored to involve the villain Thanos. Expect to hear more soon as production gears up to begin later this year. Guardians of the Galaxy will be released in 3D on August 1, 2014. Loved it...thought the baddie was great...esp compared to the first one. Enjoyed it alot...def emotional second half...kindve clunky first half. I'll buy it. [Reply]
I thought it was pretty weird the way they changed things up from the comics regarding Ego and Ayesha. I thought there were lots of villains they could have used instead of changing the story from the comics so drastically. That felt off to me.
Also..
Spoiler!
I'm glad they killed off Yondu. Rooker was just terrible as Yondu, and that bothered me every scene he was in. Yondu in the comics came off as more of a native american warrior type to me. Rooker just basically carried over his Walking Dead character, and that never felt right for Yondu.
Overall, it was really enjoyable. But not so much as the first. [Reply]

Yeah there were only two that I would say were meaningful.
The Sly Stallone one with the original Guardians seems dumb, I know Disney is all about money, but if they're going to make movies out of all of these different comic book characters, and they already have the Guardians of the Galaxy up and running, why introduce another one? Especially if it doesn't live up to the team now, then you're just diluting the product.
The Groot teenager one would've been the one that I selected as the first after credit's scene, then the Adam Warlock one could be the final one. You only needed two.
The Stan Lee one was plain unnecessary. If you got the joke the first time,
then Great. No need to show an extended cut of that scene as post-credits though.
^^^
Oh God agreed. Look I love Stan Lee & respect the man for everything he's done but damn that was painfully unfunny cameo. His cameos have jumped the shark (you don't see the DC bigwigs inserting themselves in every DC film do you? Of course not).
All 5 of the post credit scenes sucked imo . I was at least hoping for something that was setting up the new Thor film [Reply]

The director, James Gunn, likes to but Easter eggs in his movies.
It just be me but there was a scene in the movie where Ego's ship was approaching his planet and the ship look a lot like the ship in Heavy Metal.
I thought one of most amazing things was the beginning scene, depicting a young Kurt Russell. I think they've pretty much perfected that process at this point - it just looked like a scene he shot in 1980. Far superior than what they did with Peter Cushing in Rogue One, and that was pretty damned good.
I was also happy to see that they got the 1980 Missouri license plates right. Miss the red plates.

Can't comment on the comic book stuff but
Spoiler!
Zombie Yondu?
The first one was something new and different. This can't be that. [Reply]
