So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.

I'm flashed, and it's currently downloading all my old apps.
Congrats! Let me know your feedback in the next couple days. I am likely 1-2 weeks behind you. [Reply]
This is my biggest annoyance with Google. Why the fuck does it take so long to roll out OTA. They're Google. Just let people manually download it for christ sakes. Fuck if Apple can release software and everyone can get it when they want it, why can't Google? [Reply]
Just bought a 1 month old mint LG G2 on Swappa for $220. Cheaper than getting a free phone on contract by $140. I was looking to get the Nexus 5 but they sell for a damn premium, so I guess I'll have to settle for the more attractive sister of the Nexus 5 and deal with the LG skin. [Reply]

Apple has a very small set of phones they have to make sure everything works for. Google has thousands.
Aside from that, they roll it out slowly so that they can watch for major bugs and catch them before they hit mainstream. See Apple's recent problems with rolling out iOS 8. [Reply]

nope, no updates
Yeah, the OTAs will take a week or two to roll out. You can flash the factory image like I did if you're pretty tech savvy, but you'll lose all your existing data. [Reply]
I've been pleasantly surprised with the battery life on my G3. Of course, I came from a S3 that lasted half a day with heavy use, so there was nowhere to go but up. [Reply]
I took my wife's Nexus 5 (was on Galaxy Nexus) and the difference is mind bottling. So much faster. The Galaxy was on it's last leg.
I bought her a One Plus One because she's blind as a bat and wanted a giant phone. A friend had an invite so why not. She's had it for a couple of weeks and loves it. It's stupid huge and the battery seems to last for a couple of days, with low level use. If you're looking for a good deal on a ginormous phone with solid spec I'd recommend it. [Reply]
Lollipop OTA zips are floating around out there if anyone is hunting for them. You still have to load them through ADB or through a custom recovery, but you won't lose your data.
Taking the plunge tomorrow and going to pick up the Note Edge when they open in the am.
I'm wary on the available stock at each location as they haven't done preorder and it's essentially a special limited release at least to start out with here in the US. Interesting that in Japan, the Edge has been released and is the primary version for the newest Note line. In fact, the regular Note 4 hasn't even been released there yet.
Plus, I can't get a gauge on how quick it might be sold out.
Seems like there's no middle of the road opinions about the phone. People either dislike it or are obsessed with getting one.

So I ended up getting the Note 3 for $99 when I moved to Verizon. I've got 12 more days to decide if I want to upgrade to the Note 4 for another $200. Any thoughts? Everything I'm reading says that the differences between the 4 and 3 are minimal. [Reply]

That's why I didn't get the Note 4. Just not much of an upgrade overall. [Reply]

Yeah....I just want to make sure that the Note 3 is going to last for the next 2 years of my contract. The Note 2 went almost the two years before it started to crap out and reboot itself 2-3 times a day. [Reply]
