His leg bent the wrong way. It looked very similar to a Dadi Nicolas from many years ago and a more severe version of Justin Houston's knee.

I've seen this one other time in my life. It was a teammate of mine in HS. That time it was cancer. Actually a tumor in the bone, which created a weak spot inside it. His femur exploded like a bomb went off inside it.

I have no idea.
My mind instantly turned to some contributing problem like a cancer or some sort of blood disease that affects marrow.
Finely-tuned athletes should definitely not break a femur running on grass.
