Nzoner's Game Room>****Official Golf Thread****
'Hamas' Jenkins 10:08 PM 02-07-2015
The original Bushwood thread is overflowing like Craig Stadler's FUPA.

Use this thread to discuss tournaments, swing thoughts, equipment, and golf deals.

I thought we could also use the OP to create a WITB for ChiefsPlanet members. I'll list a poster's name and put their sticks in a spoiler tag, so you can see what everyone is carrying.

I'd have to see your swing, but a 3 wood swing and driver swing should almost be the same

There are literally dozens of tips that could work, but without seeing a swing it is just as likely to further fuck you up, so try a drill instead.

Go to the range some time and try to hit your driver less than 100 yards with a full swing. You can't cheat and stop at impact or only take a putter-length swing.

A lot of the time, hitting hooks is a matter of just getting too fast with your arms and trying to hit the ball too hard.

that's what I fucking thought ...

but seriously

and as for the post above ... in my Monday league ... I don't use my driver. Not worth it.

I hit 80% of fairways with my 3 wood and about 20% with my driver

and most of the time my driver only goes about 20 yards further although when I really get it good I'll get it around 270-280

I've really worked on my swing but no matter what I do I can't figure out the driver ... and I golf daily ... and work on it almost daily

You can't get away with hitting a 3 wood on the upswing like you can the driver.

For a lot of people it can be a matter of the extra shaft length. Most modern drivers are just too long and should probably be not much more than 43-44 inches.

I am not a hard swinger ... I try and keep my head back with my driver and really try and shift my hips through while keeping my left shoulder closed as long as possible

works great with the 3 wood

can't figure out the damn driver

But if you keep your left shoulder closed and your head back, something has to complete the swing, and that something for a lot of people will be their hands. It's an overcompensation for hanging back, which normally causes the ball to go right because you don't get through the shot. Instead, you overrotate with your arms through and basically hit a top spin forehand that drives the ball into the ground.

Also, most people misinterpret their actual ball flight. A real snap hook will have a divot pattern that points to the right, indicating an excessive in-out swing path. The ball will start right and snap hard left.

That's different than a pull-hook, which will actually go much farther left. Your swing path is the opposite, out to in.

Also, pull-hooks will be hit off the heel. A true snap hook is hit off the toe.

Do you have one of those 'adjustable' drivers? Could be set up wrong. Play around with it. If not, maybe you should get fitted. My son was having same issue until he got fitted. Tried out 6 different ones. Ended up with the Ping G30. Now he hits it straight down the middle 280ish.

Cheaper tip is to choke down on your existing driver. Maybe tee it up a bit higher too.

I've never seen a divot facing right from a right handed hitter. seems it would break your back.

I see. I'm not much for not hitting driver but I drive the ball well. Fairways surrounded by hazards/OB or is it just trees? I'm tired of modern courses where every missed shot results in a penalty stroke. I prefer a chance to hit a great shot out of the rough/trees after I hit a bad shot off the tee. It's way more fun.

I've never seen you swing a club but if you want to stop a hook you might try just hitting it hard with your left side. And don't try and guide it just swing it. Hard with the left side with the butt of the left hand getting to the ball first.

I walked up to watch Payne Stewart while he was practicing late one afternoon and he was hitting 3 woods working on a fade. He said all you have to do is hit it hard with your left side if you want to fade it. Try it!

You've never seen a divot that points to right field?

Not thay I can remember. The club is always going left after impact, due to the swing arc so you'd have to play it pretty far back to get it that inside out

O,

If that is indeed true, then it would be impossible to hit a board to the outside of the ball if you didn't come over the top. In fact, it would be impossible to get truly stuck.

Go with "Don't count that" as often as you can get away with.
