It's been awesome watching him shadow 1's while kicking McDuffie into the slot though. I think it's probably the biggest reason for our improved defense this year.
Yep, unfortunately this will most likely be the case. Veach hit in the draft which gives us flexibility, which is great. Fans will slowly get used to the "process" as we will have to see some really good talent leave to have the money to field a team with no glaring weaknesses.

If you could get Jones signed, you could theoretically tag and trade Sneed.

We also need to take into account we could cut Justin Reid if it helps keep Sneed. Reid has been decent but if you have to choose only one guy to pay in the secondary, it has to be Sneed. Reid is due $14.5 million and you can save $11.5 million letting him go. No way is he worth that kind of cap hit.

This seems like the way to make it happen.

Dumb question but has the time for giving Sneed an extension passed, or could we offer him an extension now? He would probably take some discount for the stability/chance of injury this year. I can't remember if we or other teams ever extend players like that mid-season though.

So both Sneed and McDuffie are better than Surtain? :-)

They absolutely can extend him now.

This year? It's not even close.

They could extend him, he would have no interest in it at this point being that he's so close to FA.

I think I was the lone person a while back in a draft forum poll suggesting that safety be our top priority next year. I think you have to keep Sneed, and then you invest a high pick on a safety if we can't keep our current stable. But Sneed has to stay.

My only concern with him is concussion history, but aside from that, I have a huge cornerback crush on him.

It's hard not to love the guy, but you're right, his playing style lends itself to be a risky resigning. It's the sad truth for a guy like him.

I'm not sure where they see Cooper in the future, he could be your potential Reid replacement. Then you still have Cook and you might be able to keep Edwards for a reasonable rate as well. One way or another, you're going to have to spend picks in the secondary again next year, so they'll have to decide which way they want to go.

He's got knee issues and he's one injury away from losing a lot of guaranteed money. Also if he keeps playing like this we might franchise tag him.

Sneed is also a guy who can transition to safety later in his career.

Man of all the things to worry about, losing Willie Gay isn't one of them. Not saying he isn't good, just not a priority for roster construction.

Just for the math alone, Reid will be gone without a restructure/extension.

That's a risk he's gonna be willing to take at this point.
