The Lagoon Nebula is estimated to be between 4,000-6,000 light years from the Earth. In the sky of Earth, it spans 90' by 40', translates to an actual dimension of 110 by 50 light years. Like many nebulas, it appears pink in time-exposure color photos but is gray to the eye peering through binoculars or a telescope, human vision having poor color sensitivity at low light levels. The nebula contains a number of Bok globules (dark, collapsing clouds of protostellar material), the most prominent of which have been catalogued by E. E. Barnard as B88, B89 and B296. It also includes a funnel-like or tornado-like structure caused by a hot O-type star that emanates ultraviolet light, heating and ionizing gases on the surface of the nebula.

In real life he would have caught a severe beating for that. Luckily Bawna cleaned it up for me. I will not make that mistake again. I will post some eventually. BTW you and I have crossed each other in the past. Your dismissal of that and continuing to provide help to me shows good form. Thanks for overlooking some below the belt jabs I have taken in the past~
I realize that this reply is a little late, but I came into this thread to contribute and find someone claiming that he would "severely beat me". That was me, and I did it because you ignored literally dozens of pages in that thread discussing how bad an idea it is to post personal pictures on a place like this forum. The photoshop that I did was far from the worst thing that was done or said in that thread, and It was very self-absorbed of you to ignore the consensus that virtually every poster in that thread save you came to regarding the posting of person information on this or any public forum. The picture I made wasn't nice, no, but you deserved to be ribbed a bit and you've clearly overreacted~

I'll put my pictures in a separate post so that they don't have to be associated with this silliness.

I took these pictures on a hike up to Flat Top and Hallett Peak in Colorado. We got hailed on pretty hard on the way down (got too ambitious with our estimated timeframe), but it was really nice on the way up. I have some pictures from above the tree line as well, but I didn't think that they were as good.

The pictures aren't too sharp when you blow them up since I took them with my phone, but I think they show the beauty of the area pretty well regardless.

That's one of the lamest excuses for being a douche I've seen in a long time.

I originally did it as a joke, and he became extremely upset about it. If he'd asked me to remove it, I'd have gladly done so, but he didn't really express his displeasure until it was removed by a mod. I don't know for certain that he contacted the mods himself, but either way, he had a violent overreaction.

Anyway, I didn't mean to derail this thread, so I apologize for that. If anyone wants to discuss it further, send me a PM and we can let this thread continue to be about cool photography.
