Nzoner's Game Room>2019 Free agency Thread
O.city 03:24 PM 02-05-2019
We don't really have one of these yet, so figured we could use this as a place to discuss potential free agent acquisitions and what we would like to look for them to bring in.

If any of you guys are interested, heres a good place to do some research.

I think someone like Chris Long can give you just as much production in 2019 as a Preston Smith, he’s just older. I’d absolutely love to get him. He’s been on plenty of winners. Plays very hard.

Because the risk vs reward is something whether you acknowledge it or not. The reward is that he has a similar season to 2018 which if they're going to want to contend, they're gonna need.

Be it from him or from someone else, they need someone to get after the passer.

You may think that's unlikely, but it's on the table.

Depends.

Have to see who doesn't get anyone in free agency.

Packers are releasing Nick Perry after agreeing to terms Preston Smith and ZaDarius Smith. Was set to make $11M this season. Will b e a market for him for sure. Young enough and is healthy after battling injuries in 2018

You don’t get nothing from releasing him. You get almost $16 million to spend to stock your defense.

The trade market for Ford seems to have died.

And therein lies the fundamental disagreement. A lot of people seem to think repeating 2018 is going to be easy to do.

Except there isn't a SINGLE EXAMPLE in his past of him posting back to back stellar seasons like that.

I dont' think it will be easy, but I have evidence that he's atleast capable of doing it.

I don't have that for a guy like Zdarius Smith or Preston Brown.

The argument I have against it would be that they need a lot of guys on the defense so that money would help go multiple ways.

But if he can repeat last year, that would go a long way.

Either way they go, there's unknowns.

Cleveland is going to be the favorite to win the AFC North.

What evidence do you have that he can do it in 2019 after just doing it in 2018? I'll save you the time - there isn't any.

By the way, in terms of 2019 cap hits, you probably could have had BOTH Smiths and hedged your bets. Better chance of working out than just Ford.
