Media Center>Time again for a new phone
Dartgod 08:28 PM 07-14-2013
So I'm eligible to upgrade my cell phone again August 1st. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 through Sprint and was ready to get the S4. Now I see that LG is set to release their Optimus G2 sometime in August.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/09/lg-optimus-g2-leak/

I've never considered LG, but I'm intrigued by what I've read.

Has anyone else looked at this and is it worth waiting another month or so for the LG?

Also, does anyone in the KC area have any experience with Sprint's LTE 4G? Is coverage still spotty?

I'll actually retract that. My perception of the article was skewed by a shitty title from Reddit:

"PSA: That leaked photo of the 5.9" Nexus X yesterday is actually the Moto S"

The article really doesn't say that at all.

If that's not the Nexus 6/X then Google and Motorola are pulling off one hell of a sleight of hand. I sincerely hope that's the case because I could swallow my pride for a 5.2" phone but that ****ing behemoth can burn a slow and painful death.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the Nexus line - previous phone was a 4, and current one is a 5 - but I really don't want anything larger. I could handle 5.2" if I had to, but any larger than that and I'm out.

That's some shitty quality control and design from Apple. I expect better from them. What a failure of a new phone and software. Ridiculous.

There is this guy saying that those pictures are the "Moto S."

http://tktechnews.com/2014/09/26/ima...ly-the-moto-s/

But he also says that there's a Nexus X "at the same size."

However, I personally think this guy is full of shit. He's been caught stealing other peoples leaked images and watermarking his own shit on them. He also says in that article that he's never been wrong about anything from Motorola, yet he claimed that the dimple on the back of the Moto X was suppose to be a button and I'm pretty sure he also said there was suppose to be "multiple Moto X's in different sizes/variations."

I still don't get why people put phones in there back pocket and sit on them. They deserve their bent phone.

True, but the phones shouldn't be THAT easy to bend.

Agreed. That is just nuts.

Apple claims bending isn't an issue with normal use but curious how it plays out. Makes sense that the thin frame and aluminum don't hold up if you try as hard as you can to bend it. However, if they bend any at all from being in a pocket that is very half assed.

Yeah, I mean, what if it's in your front pocket and you lean up against a counter and it bends? That's fucked up.

I thought the same thing until I got the Note 3 early this year.

5.5 is perfect for me. So was 5.7. Not sure about 5.9, but I might try that one next year.

Consumer Reports decided to quantify the bend issue:

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/n...gate/index.htm

So basically, the iPhone 6's aren't as strong as previous iPhones, and they're below many of the other phones out there, but the HTC M8 has been a very popular phone and hasn't had a lot of negative PR about bending, and it's slightly more prone to bending than the iPhone is.

Something to note is that aluminum has a fatigue life, which means that small pressures over the life of the product can eventually cause it to fail. This does not happen to titanium or iron/steel-based alloys.

Even if it takes "X" amount of force to bend it at once, that doesn't mean it will always require that force. Smaller amounts can eventually cause the same failure.

Just ordered the Moto X. I can't wait another month to be disappointed with the Nexus X, it's gonna be a month as it is for the backorder on the Moto X. I guess that will work out perfectly if the Nexus is indeed a badass little 5.2" phone. I'll be able to send the Moto X back in the 14 day window in order to terminate the upgrade, at least I think it's 14 days.
