Nzoner's Game Room>UPDATE: Ford to 49ers for a 2020 2nd round pick. Official.
Dante84 06:19 PM 03-12-2019

More trade news: The #Chiefs are deep in talks with the #49ers on a trade for star pass-rusher Dee Ford, sources say. Things have escalated and this could get done by the end of the night. Ford needs to work out a new contract with SF, which is a big piece of this.

The trade is essentially agreed to — Ford for a 2020 2nd round pick. That assumes the #49ers get a deal done with Ford. https://t.co/g4tYK2tWFh

Yeah not gonna lie @DRM08–this whole debate is stupid.

Mahomes was thankful as fuck to be drafted by KC. No other team would have given him this hot of a start to his career. Relax.

That's because they are well coached. Chargers didn't touch him, and the Rams only got to him once.

How about you fucking take a chill pill and wait to see what the other acquisitions are before you start hemming and hawing because the defense isn't being rebuilt fast enough? The fucking official free agency period hasn't even fucking started yet!

What's next? Are you going to complain that Veach is being lazy because he's got a bunch of 2019 draft picks just sitting there and he hasn't used them to draft any players yet?

Now, granted, the Chiefs haven't been a great team at drafting second-round picks, so let's look at a leaguewide average. If we take the year that Dee was drafted, here are all of the second-round picks that year, with my rough ranking of value.

Guys with more value than Ford:

Jarvis Landry, WR, MIA
Derek Carr, QB, OAK
Davante Adams, WR, GNB
Justin Britt, T, SEA

Guys with roughly equal value to Ford

Demarcus Lawrence, DE, DAL
Joel Bitonio, G, CLE
Jordan Matthews, WR, PHI
Jeremy Hill, RB, CIN
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, NWE
Allen Robinson, WR, JAX
Stephon Tuitt, DE, PIT

Guys with somewhat less value than Ford:

Xavier Su'a-Filo, G, HOU
Kyle Van Noy, LB, DET
Weston Richburg, OL, NYG
Trent Murphy, LB, WAS
Timmy Jernigan, DT, BAL
Jack Mewhort, T, IND
Carlos Hyde, RB, SFO

Guys with far less value than Ford:

Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, ATL
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, TAM
Marqise Lee, WR, JAX
Lamarcus Joyner, DB, STL
Cyrus Kouandjio, T, BUF
Paul Richardson, WR, SEA
Jace Amaro, TE, NYJ
Jeremiah Attaochu, LB, SDG
Ego Ferguson, DT, CHI
Troy Niklas, TE, ARI
Bishop Sankey, RB, TEN
Kony Ealy, DE, CAR
Stanley Jean-Baptiste, DB, NOR
Cody Latimer, WR, DEN

So the 50/50 shot is that we'll draft a player like Timmy Jernigan or Weston Richburg with our new 2nd round pick. There's a 12.5 percent chance that we'll come out a winner and get someone better than Ford (in my opinion).

No, but I will complain about the craptastic picks he made last year. :-)

I think Reid and Hunt will regret letting Dorsey go.

Situational pass rusher who doesn't fit in this scheme is not more important than a versatile, every down safety who fits perfectly into the scheme the defensive coordinator likes to run.

Especially at half the commitment in years and total dollars. Ford got paid like an elite pass rusher who isn't a total liability in other phases of the game.

But he IS a total liability in other phases of the game. Yes, he's a really good speed rusher. But he doesn't have the size or strength to hold up against the run at the point of attack. He's easily exploitable. You can knock him off his edge with a slot WR.

A smart, disciplined team can handle him. That's not the type of guy you back the truck up for.

Veach is probably just as good but Dorsey was always a top GM.

You guys fleeced the Whiners. He's not worth a top 35 pick, they could have drafted someone better, younger, cheaper. On top of that, he got paid and isn't going to play with the same motivation.

Take a look at Dorsey's draft history. He was shitty at drafting defensive players, too.

Especially LB. And the really funny part is he was an NFL LB before he became a scout/front office guy.

Tell me what exactly Dorsey would be doing differently if we had kept him.

I guess I don’t get what everyone who is pissed was hoping for. A higher pick? What if SF said no? Considering they were the only team left with any interest they held power over compensation. Sure we could have refused and played Ford at $15 million and hope he produced even close to what he did this year in a new system playing as a DE. If he did then we would have to decide if the oft injured Ford was worth close to if not more than what SF is paying him and risking having another Justin Houston or Eric Berry situation on our hands. He would have zero trade value as he would be a FA meaning if he walked the best we could hope for is a 2021 comp pick. The fact we traded this one dimensional oft injured player says a lot about how the defensive coaches felt about him and his prospects. This was the best we were going to get for him.

You guys are a fuckin' hoot sometimes.

The Chiefs had no market beyond SF for a player this board claimed was a piece of shit that couldn't even line up properly. Veach got what he wanted in the end, with zero competition to jack the price up and it's not fucking good enough. :-)

We didn't get a top 35 pick. We got a 2nd round next year, this year.

Raiders fans, I swear to god...:-)

Overpay him on a long contract.
