Snyder's Man of Steel, which rebooted the Superman franchise, has grossed north of $600 million worldwide since it hit theaters this June.

According to two sources with knowledge of the movie, Warner Bros. intends to announce the news at its Comic-Con International panel Saturday morning. Said a Warner Bros. spokesperson, “We don’t comment on rumors regarding these properties.”

“Man of Steel” director Zack Snyder is expected to reunite with screenwriter David S. Goyer and star Henry Cavill for the new film. It’s unlikely Christian Bale will step back into the bat suit, as the actor has indicated publicly that he has moved on from his days as Bruce Wayne.

“Man of Steel” producer and “Dark Knight” trilogy director Christopher Nolan is expected by some to produce the project, but the exact nature of his involvement is unclear.

The move marks the culmination of years of effort on the part of Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring their superheroes together in a similar fashion to their primary competitor Marvel, which successfully combined its superheroes into a $1.5-billion box-office hit with “The Avengers.”

In the comic world, the two heroes are teaming up in a new series, “Batman/Superman,” by writer Greg Pak and artist Jae Lee.

Pretty cool idea, if this is what they roll with. Will definitely help shut the haters up.

One of the things that has driven me crazy since the release of "Man Of Steel" is when people say that the last act of the film is a problem since there's no consequences for Superman after all of the destruction that results from his battle with Zod. I felt like it was pretty clear walking out of the theater that the next film would have to be all about consequences. I suspected that Lex Luthor would use the destruction as a way of making Superman look like a monster, and it sounds like that is indeed one of the major ideas that they're playing with in "Dawn Of Justice."

Someone else who's not particularly happy about what happened in that film is Aquaman. I'm not sure if that's the actual name they'll use or not, but what we're hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean. He will not have a major role in the film, but he will make an appearance, and it definitely sets him up to return once Snyder gets to "Justice League."

DC is going to go up in flames wth this endeavor. They'll still make a boatload of cash, but this is just going to be an unmitigated disaster.
He's bad casting, but they haven't gotten anything right outside of the batman movies in a long time, so it's just par for the course. They just need to do something like casting Sean Hayes as Shazam and get the implosion over with.

That doesn't sound like a bad direction to go, but I have to wonder if that is the Superman story. He typically is a stand-up-for-justice, wave-the-flag kind of heroic character, inspiring others with his actions and being a public face of the forces of good and so on. Instead, this sounds more like they're making him a persecuted man on the run. This is the problem with Superman, after all - he's not much of a character; a description of his personality reads like the Boy Scout Law ("Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly," and all that.) It would take a really talented writer to be able to hold on to the natural duality and alien-ness of the character, preserve his bold heroics and unwavering sense of morality, and make him interesting to watch. It's possible to do (see Captain America), but Zack Snyder just isn't that good. Instead, he's been doing all he can, mostly by adding angst (including the same kind of Daddy Issues that are making the current Spider-Man movies so awful), shooting the budget up to the moon, and now apparently a writing in a burgeoning persecution complex. If they indeed do go this route, it would make him into what amounts to an X-Man, or the Bill Bixby 70's Hulk.

So it sounds interesting, but it doesn't really sound like Superman.

Darkseid is rumoured to be the villian in Justice League.. I was hoping that they save him for later and start off with Brainiac or something. They need to save Darkseid for the death of Batman ala Rock of Ages (which, come to think of it, would kind of be like The Avengers + X-Men: Days of Future Past storylines combined except ****ing epic srsbznz). Killing off Bruce will give them an excuse to recast Affleck so that Dick Grayson can become the younger, more modern 21st century Batman. Ahhhh one can only dream :-)

To me that just screams desperation by DC. You have to build up to a villain of Darkseid's stature. You can't just introduce him because Marvel has Thanos waiting in the wings with Guardians and the next Avengers movie.

The more I look at DC's upcoming works and the more rumors I hear, the less hope I have for ANY of these films.

It's more like Millar's Red Son continuity. If it gets down to fear of power.

Can we please get rid of the Super-man auto-changed to Superman? Especially since they're making new Superman movies now?

I don't mind all smileys. My issue is with the ones that you type something correctly, without any brackets or colons or anything, and it auto-replaces, especially words. It'd different with LOL or :-) or rockon or things like that.

But I shouldn't have to misspell Super-man to avoid the smiley.

How'd you do that?

EDIT: Nevermind. I thought disabling smilies was a setting that would disable all smilies in CP.

New promo pic. Looks like they're not changing the suit but judging from the background, bet your ass on a Dark Knight Returns setting/fight.
