The season is upon us, even if spring is not.

2018 MLB Draft Picks
#18
#33 - Compensation (Eric Hosmer)
#34 - Compensation (Lorenzo Cain)
#40 (Competitive Balance Round A)

018 Draft Names to Watch

RHP Kumar Rocker, N Oconnee HS, Georgia.
Spoiler!

OF Jarred Kelenic, Waukasha West HS, WI
Spoiler!

1B Triston Casas, American Heritage HS (FL).
Spoiler!

RHP Carter Stewart, Eau de Gallie HS (Ga).
Spoiler!

ANY Any, Any (Any). Any current top projected pick who slides for injury concerns. Includes current top prospect prospect SP Brady Singer, U of Florida.

Current Prospects to Watch:

OF Seuly Matias - Huge tools. Hit 2 HR in Lexington (A) season opener.

1B Nick Pratto - Top pick in 17 has advanced approach and good glove; needs to start tapping into power in first full year in minors. Also at Lexington.

OF Michael Gigliotti - Good defender in CF, good OBP skills, plus baserunner. Next mainstay in CF for KC, IMO. Advanced college bat also starting at Lexington.

OF Khalil Lee - Probably has highest upside in Royals' system. Could hit 30 HR in majors, could steal 30 bases. Plus defensive ability in RF. Nice test at Wilmington this year.

3B Emmanuel Rivera - Really nice approach and good contact skills. Power is still developing. Also getting a good test at Wilmington.

SP Foster Griffin - Made nice strides in 2017. Needs to continue to progress in 2018. Could be a lefty version of Jakob Junis (good breaking ball that he can really manipulate, OK fastball, good command).

1B Samir Duenez - Duenez still is intriguing, hoping for a step forward in his power production this year at Northwest Arkansas, which would turn him into a legit prospect.

Others to keep an eye on:
SP Gerson Garabito (Wilmington), OF Marten Gasparini (Lexington), C MJ Melendez (Lexington), RP Tyler Zuber (lexington), RP Richard Lovelady (Omaha), SP Dan Tillo (Lexington), SS Nicky Lopez (NWA), SP Scott Blewett (NWA), OF Brewer Hicklen (Idaho Falls),

In general, Lexington and Wilmington are the most interesting spots to watch. Nice depth and a lot of interesting pieces at both.

Dozier and O'Hearn went deep again. I think you have to give them a shot at the corners starting next year. If you want to give Phillips a shot fine, but have Goodwin as your 4th OFer ready to take over if he still struggles this bad out of the gate.

Disagree. Phillips has never been given a season of 500 AB's to figure it out at this level. His problem is that he's been shifted around everywhere. He needs at least a full season to see if he can break through, his defense is that good.

It doesn't do him or the team any good to him out there daily if he cant even OPS 600. Let's hope he starts out just fine and we don't have to worry about it. If not send him down and let him learn and earn it like Mondesi did.

Hosmer has always been a chode. But he was YOUR chode so you ignored it. We all do it - but this is nothing new.
I've said it before dating back to 2014 on here. Hosmer was a super unlikable guy and someone I never individually rooted for. When the bandwagon stormed in during the 2014/2015 seasons, I could hardly stomach seeing the array of sorority sluts with their "EAT MY PUSSY HOSMER" signs. Nevermind the fact that these bimbos had no clue what a ground rule double was.

The difference is Phillips is already older than Mondesi. I'm not sure you can compare them. Mondesi got rushed to the majors because we were contenders. Phillips was a top 100 prospect who never got to play because Milwaukee has too many outfielders.

Phillips has already played in 600 minor league games, including 170 at AAA, and he's posted great numbers. He's probably more comparable to Dozier than Mondesi. I'm not sure he has anything left to prove at AAA.

A ground rule double is a baseball rule that awards of two bases from the time of pitch to all baserunners including the batter-runner, as a result of the ball leaving play after being hit fairly and leaving the field under a condition of the ground rules in effect at the field where the game is being played. An automatic double is the term used to refer to a fairly hit ball leaving the field in circumstances that do not merit a home run, as described in Major League Baseball (MLB) rules 5.05(a)(6) through 5.05(a)(9).[1] The automatic double (or rule-book double) is quite often mistakenly called a ground rule double.[2]

most people call automatic doubles ground rule doubles.

Oh, thank God he said poon. If he said "porn" then I think Dayton might have had a heart attack.

Ryan O'Hearn is the 36th player in Play Index history - rookie or otherwise - with a 1200 OPS against RHP in at least 100 PA.

The others? Williams (8 times), Bonds & Ruth (5), Gehrig (4), Foxx, Helton, Thome, & Walker (twice), Brett, Cash, Delgado, Giambi, & McGwire (once).

Yes whenever all but one of your list (Cash?) doesn't need first names, that's a good list.

Norm Cash doesn’t need a first name.

Or shouldn’t. His rookie season is still one of the best ever.

That wasn’t his rookie year. But it was an expansion year.

Why do so many fans feel the need to interfere with balls in play?

Whit Merrifield is the first Royals player with 50 extra-base hits and 40 stolen bases since Carlos Beltrán in 2003.

The only other Royals to have done it are Johnny Damon (2000) and Willie Wilson (1985).
