Reshoots specifically keyed in on expanding his amount of screentime. You're probably not far off in his original role that would have made him more of a periphery character, and probably intended so because it's a standalone film. My guess is it came off more like a teaser to wet the audience's appetite as if setting up the next installment. While technically it does, since Rogue One isn't getting a sequel, as of now, using Vader in such a limited amount came off as disappointing and a bit of an OT cocktease. [Reply]
My memory isn't the greatest, but awhile back I thought I read somewhere that the intention was to show how when Vader hits the battleground he's pure devastation.
Perhaps even picking up people or dead bodies and using them as shields from blaster fire.
Then again, maybe it was some fan spouting nonsense on reddit. But I hold out hope to see him land in the middle of a battle as Vader and wrecking people. [Reply]

This. I would like to see the comic-version Vader just fucking shit up with the force. If he sustains injuries, he should be in the thick of heavy battle, and in 'Rebels' form. [Reply]
