Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Just use kinder words when talking about our golden boy man!
I always say early is on time!

Mahomes mechanics aren't ordinary. So they're not 'accurate'. But they are repeatable for him. So they're extremely precise.

Give someone precision and they'll use shit like Kentucky Windage to put the round on paper. It may not go where the sights say it's supposed to, but they KNOW where it's going so they'll just adjust the sights accordingly.

That's the problem with Mahomes right now. The precision is gone so he can't adjust the sights to put the round on target.

Clear as mud?
Yeah I guess looking at film, you could look at his legs and posture and everything and point out a million "wrong" things, but Mahomes has never done those things anyways lol.

You basically have to trust him at his word. If he says his mechanics and fundamentals are off, just trust him to do "whatever" it is he does to feel accurate.

He was very good, not great. Offense was really challenged for over 3 quarters against 9ers. Those were all coin flip games (sans Miami) and we ended up on the right side. Last year's team maximized their attributes and ran through an absolute gauntlet to defy the odds and pull out an incredible, improbable and most satisfying Super Bowl ever.
He was also very careful against both Baltimore and the Niners. Folks like Keysor were very surprised because he simply did not take even the intermediate shots in those playoff games that he has throughout his career. It’s possible he was very aware that he was off coming into those games and adjusted his gameplay accordingly.

Now that he’s in the regular season, he can let it rip until he figures it out.

Great point. Is a decline in talent or ability even worth considering? I mean we talk about running backs hitting the wall around 29 yrs. Different position, obviously. I realize its far too early and too small a sample size to say, but hoping his abilities didn't peak too early, and that its just a slump.
Based on the Miami game in Negative 30 degree weather where the dude was firing rockets with great accuracy all over the field, I am going with a big fat "NOPE" on a loss of ability. He was doing stuff in the Miami game that 98% of the QB's in the league would not be able to do in those conditions.

I still say the lack of stability at Left Tackle is a major factor. The one time he actually had stability at Left Tackle in recent years was the 2nd year with Orlando Brown. Mahomes won MVP and was pretty damn good in the Playoffs on a bad ankle. But then Orlando left, and you replace him with a washed up version of Donovan Smith for one year...

And now Donovan is replaced this year with two very young guys that will hopefully gain more chemistry with Mahomes over the months & years, which is exactly what happened with Orlando Brown in Year 2 compared to Year 1. We need Mahomes to get comfortable with one of these young LT's and there could be major dividends over the long haul. But it's gonna take some patience.

people really saying he lost something, before the age of 29, when in week one he was showing velocity as good as he's ever had?

:-) :-) :-)

I wasn't really referring to arm strength (that's the last to go, as Brett Favre said lol) but rather other QB traits like placement, accuracy, surveying the field and making the right decision. Even on TV we can see, he's making incorrect reads. Again, small sample size and plenty of time to right the ship.
