The People vs. Matthew Gus Brennan Cassel


When in the course of football events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the fandom bands which have connected them with a Quarterback, and to assume among the Powers of the NFL, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Football and of the NFL's Goodell entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Quarterbacks Long Established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably The Same Offense evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to Throw Off Such Quarterbacks, and to provide new Guards (however, neither left nor right) for their Future Rooting Interests.

Such has been the patient sufferance of these Chiefs Fans; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Offense. He threw the majority of his passes Sunday with good zip and accuracy against a very talented defense.

It's true.
He's the only player on the offense other than the center that touches the ball on EVERY play.

To suggest that all of these things are "out of his control" is incorrect.

No, Albert shouldn't have let the rusher run free. Cassel could have also held onto the ball. He's not completely absolved of blame.

Similarly, on the Moeaki tipped ball/INT - although it appears to have been a perfectly-thrown ball, we have no idea about the velocity and other factors that might have led to Moeaki not catching the ball. By sheer virtue of the fact that Cassel THREW THE PASS, he'll never be completely free of blame.

All of that being said, I'm sick and ****ing tired of these conversations. I would just like for ONE TIME to be able to say "he had a good game" and not have to add a qualifier afterwards.

Only one of those picks was his fault and that causes a big swing in the QB rating.

The rest of that stat line is good enough to win with against defenses as good as Atlantas.

I'll take 63% and 7.82 ALL DAY from our quarterback position.

If he ends the year with those averages, Id be happy.

Im not gonna sit here and blame Cassel for a defender wrapping Moeaki up while the ball was in the air and Moeaki STILL getting his hands up high enough to get them on the ball.

On the fumble, JA was WAYYYY offsides and the ball was chopped out within 2 seconds of the snap.

Now way I am placing the blame for the results of those plays on Cassel.

When he fails, Ill be right here to throw him into the fire and will be calling for Brady Quinn and Stanzi to get their chances...but that time hasnt came yet.
