If the Preds play golf the way the power play they are in for a ton of shanked drives, wiffed iron shots, pitches and lobs into sand traps, missed 2 ft putts and a lot of lost golf balls. As for last night. All that plastic. GONE! When I get over this crap from the Preds its Go Avs for now, they were my favorite team for a few seasons before the Predators came a long. If they do not win, as much as their fans do not like us, I would not mind seeing the Blues take it all. [Reply]

I think there will be a lot said (behind closed doors) to no avail about how that game ended. The stance for/by the officials will be the time-honored excuses of "just human", "call like they see them", and "nobody's perfect"; so this will simply amount to one (more) instance of where sports officials altered the outcome of a game with a call. Nor will anybody be afforded the opportunity to show how many equivalent calls weren't called (cross-checks [by the rule book] that weren't called) and "they swallowed their whistle and 'let them play.'" It's going to take a lot more than one before anything meaningful is put in place to change what happened last night.
What we'll suffer is the argument of what's a minor, what's a major, and what's a game misconduct as it related to rule 59. The key words will be "discretion of the Referee"... And the arguing is the cover the officials will use to disappear.
Then we'll suffer the cyclic debate of how long games are, how some believe that technology has no place in officiating (even at a sport's highest levels), and while that cyclic debate rages the officials will sneak out the side door for a beer and laugh about how they can't be touched.
The bottom line is the VGKs got jobbed, nobody can change it now, the officials probably won't even be questioned, and we all have to move on.

Lots of titans gone in round 1!
All four division winners went down. Wonder if something like that has ever happened before. (It would be hard to compare with the changes in structure though.) [Reply]

No, it has never happened until this year. And I fell asleep. [Reply]
