Nzoner's Game Room>Josh Allen “debating” whether to get COVID-19 vaccine
kcbubb 10:12 PM 04-07-2021
The NFL will not mandate COVID-19 vaccines. Thus, it stands to reason, even with incentives offered to teams and players who are vaccinated, some players aren’t going to get a shot.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen could be one of those. In an appearance on The Ringer’s “10 Questions With Kyle Brandt” podcast, Allen said he has not had a vaccine and might not get one.

“I’m still debating that,” Allen said, via Matt Parrino of nyup.com. “I’m a big statistics and logical guy. So, if statistics show it’s the right thing for me to do, I’d do it. Again, I’d lean the other way, too, if that’s what it said. I haven’t been paying attention to it as much as maybe I should have. I’ve just been doing my thing and masking up when I’m going out and just staying close and hanging around family.”

It is unclear what statistics Allen needs to see to convince him to get a shot. The Pfizer vaccine was shown a 95 percent efficacy rate in preventing symptomatic COVID-19, just 1 percentage point more than Moderna’s. The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine was shown to have a 72 percent efficacy rate in the United States in preventing symptomatic illness and an 85 percent efficacy rate in preventing the most severe disease 28 days after vaccination.

Allen, 24, made clear he’s against any kind of mandate.

“I think everybody should have that choice to do it or not to do it,” Allen said. “You get in this tricky situation now where if you do mandate that that’s kind of going against what our constitution says and the freedom to kind of express yourself one way or the other. I think we’re in a time where that’s getting a lot harder to do. Everybody should have that choice.”

However, the league expects to amend certain protocols for those who are vaccinated and for teams as a whole if certain vaccination levels are met, which will encourage (pressure?) players to get a COVID-19 shot.

And no offense, but the hyperbole of "lamenting every, single, last, death" is part of that (I get it... we all talk about the same stuff forever and the hyperbole comes out).

My personal issue with the whole "people die everyday" thing for the past year has been the obvious influx of deaths. The difference between an average and bad flu season is ~20k deaths, yet we're talking about 10x the number of a bad flu season dying of Covid, and that's with the shutdowns and masks and what not.

But, can you imagine 600,000 people dying from the vaccine in the next year? Half that? Ten percent of that? At ten percent or even far less, the vaccines would be deemed a colossal failure all around, much less the opportunity costs of waiting another 6 months or year to start getting shots in arms.

And I'll admit, reading this thread, I noticed the pattern of some of the people who have dismissed Covid as a real threat for the past year and have called others afraid and scared of a virus, are now what I could easily call "afraid" of a vaccine. One of those things killed 600k Americans and caused serious long term issues to many others (and we had no control over it), while the other will most likely kill or cause issues for a small fraction of 600k (and has been tested and so forth).

And while I'll probably shitpost about that at some point, there's of course more to the story... and for some people, that story is they're terrible at math, and for others it's the denial of only wanting to look out for themselves... but, many others don't fall into the extreme and are simply trying to make sense of the data they come across.
You need to keep in mind, covid itself hasn't killed 600K people.

During the presidential election in 2020, the CDC sent out a directive that you could go vote in person EVEN IF YOU WERE INFECTED CURRENTLY with coronavirus. Yes the CDC, this is fact and was straight off their website.

This is after months of lockdowns, people losing their jobs, their livelihoods, their mental health in some cases all that. The CDC said you go go out in vote in person while infected with the rona. So you can't go to church, concerts, out to eat, etc. (or highly discouraged) but you can go vote adding while currently infected with the virus.

"Stop the spread, stay home, close up businesses"

then

Go vote?

A complete reversal. How does that make sense with all the serious and life altering directives people faced during this whole coronavirus thing? It is a complete and total reversal. It doesn't and it is a part of it. The wishy washiness from the beginning of mask then no mask then double mask, then vaccine, then still wear mask. It seems like throwing shit against a wall and hope it sticks.

So yea i'd say there is more than enough reason people mistrust what's being said by the "experts" right now.

The reality is this came on suddenly and some responses were simply not necessary and some where. Since it came on suddenly and things were being figured out as they go doesn't mean that those same things apply today with the data we have now. The more time that passes the more data we have and the more we have that is factual.

You can choose to follow the data and not emotion and fear it's up to you. Sure people died, sure people have had complications but that is going to happen in any illness. The Flu, cardiovascular disease, etc. kill millions and for some reason people on here feel the need to virtue signal their hearts away to the corner of world on this particular issue you know why? Because the media told them too and it is the current trendy thing. They don't care about people they just care about this issue that is in the spotlight that makes them feel important or like a better person or taking the opportunity to inject politics into a health problem.

Well, then replace "600k dead from Covid" with "influx of XXXk deaths"... that was the point. I think that number is in the ~300k range for the US.... and 300k aren't dying from the vaccine in the next year. Or 30k. Or probably 3k.

Good. He can cost his team a victory when he has to sit out a game for testing positive.

The military has never had a problem forcing vaccines on its members before that I'm aware of

Lol, did u even serve bro?

Newsflash; servicemembers aren't private citizens. Servicemembers are property of the U.S. Government. You can receive non-judicial punishment for a sunburn (damaging government property)-- ask me how I know.

My vaccination record is three pages by itself. I've received four vaccinations in one day; two in each arm--> no idea what they were for.

Yep, I certainly don't recall being given a choice
