This team is going to need a top notch run game to make an AFC Championship under Alex Smith in 2017, along with a top notch defense. Now, if Mahomes becomes as good as many including myself think he could be, it's a whole new level for the Chiefs. The offense could become something it hasn't been in nearly 15 years.
I honestly dont see our guys being quite as dynamic as Atlantas duo
But what our guys lack in explosiveness, they should be be able to make up for with with a grinding, wear you down, kill the clock style... provided Ehingers return is the cure for what ailed us last year
What Alex Smith brings this year, I have no clue... tempted to expect the same old shit because thats how he has mostly played for his entire career
But maybe, just maybe, the writing on the wall spurs him to reach outside of himself and he tries to MAKE plays for once... 'good' Smiff can approach dynamic, we'll see
The pressure will either make him wilt, or make him show off
If he decides to grab his balls, we could have a great year [Reply]

he was dead-ass serious when he said something to the effect that last year things were starting to click with Alex. or this was the year things were going to click for Alex
:-).
he can say whatever he wants about me, my family, mother, wife etc (FTR, he hasn't resulted to insults or anything...I'm just saying IF he were to say anything about me, family, wife,..etc....it wouldn't bother me).....but at least I've never typed anything as retarded as that. [Reply]

Make no mistake, those weren't due to lack of supporting cast. Alex has had it worse in the past. Far worse. These things are due to him getting older and more beat up.
I hope he lasts the entire year, because I don't want Mahomes to even sniff the field in 2017 if at all possible, but I see in my crystal ball an increasingly weak and feeble old man Alex starting to surface and become more obvious to fans and coaches.
That's a big reason why I think Mahomes will be the starter in 2018. One year is plenty, he's a smart guy, he'll pick up the offense quickly, yadda yadda all that... but moreso it's going to be because he's actually the best option we'll have at QB.
I shit you not, it's because of the Alex injury scenario I believe Bray will be the 2nd string QB to protect their investment in PM2. [Reply]

This maybe true first six ~ eight weeks but I think we may see Mahomes II after the bye at some point being suited up ready to go in. [Reply]

I personally don't give a shit if PM2 rides the bench for two years. I want him prepared and readied 1st and foremost. [Reply]

I think he will be prepared and yes the coaches will determine that length it takes him but so far everything about him I think he can be mentally prepared by mid~season. His age may say another year but I think his heart and mind for the game of football he loves will propel his determination to get on the field. Any ones guess is as good as mine. I'm just hopeful that we see him this year at least some game time sparing Alex Smith when he goes down in a game or if the game is out of reach, or better yet we are blowing out a team and he gets mop up duties. I wanna see him because I'm selfish like that.
I don't see it anyway that they will put him in too soon I just don't think too soon is this year after he gets the playbook down and able to read defenses. [Reply]

He's just not gonna change. I could not believe what I saw in that Pitt game. I still see Hill running wide open. I'd be pissed if a ROOKIE qb didn't notice that, much less a veteran. And I've always said that Alex played his best in the playoffs and he even regressed there.

Which is what I SHOULD take if Alex Smith was competent. But the reality is in a year his fundamentals will be decent enough that he can baby the car like Dak and Russell did. The Chiefs defense will be good enough for that. It's Alex's last hurrah.
