At the end of the day they’re too cheap to spend money down the stretch. The Royals don’t bother wasting our time when they suck, and when they play well they rarely give us blue balls. [Reply]

Tampa CUT payroll this year from 69m to 53m. (We paid Gordon-Kennedy-Duffy 51.8!). Think about that for a moment. They also had the 4th most players got the DL this year at 24, yet no excuses.
Got Avisail Garcia 1/3.5m. Picked up D’Arnaud off the waiver wire and he’s hitting cleanup tonite. The Archer deal. Top farm system. I could go on for an hour.
I think it was back in April that you and I were trying to tell people that the Rays were a better run franchise than the Royals in almost every aspect and most everyone else was blinded by 2015.
To follow-up on the Duda and Owings signings, let's also remember that he Royals cut 28-year-old CF Brian Goodwin at the end of springs training in order to keep 33-year-old Duda on the team and Owings as the super utility guy as part of their youth movement. Duda and Owings were both cut midseason. Brian Goodwin slashed .262/.326/.470 for the Angels this year, played all OF spots in 136 games and had an fWAR of 1.9. Duda and Owings had a combined fWAR of -1.8. [Reply]

I also remember it. Fact: the Royals and Rays .org were in the same exact spot going into 2016, with us having a better core of major leagues but the same farm system. In 4 years DM destroyed everything (objectively there is no other word for it) while TB seemingly made every good move.

Symborski (ZiPS guy) said teams like the Royals are stupid to not let guys like Goodwin play. DM has always been this way - get “gritty” shot and let them suck up negative WAR at bats while 4A guys who may be good go to Tampa and Cleveland and Oakland. [Reply]

God (pun intended) I hope this is true.
Bob Nightengale was reporting Matheny as the next Royals manager is basically a done deal.
He has proven to be full of shit before, though.
I was willing to give Dayton Moore till 2022 to see how this current rebuild plays out, but if he hires Matheny I'm officially done with Moore. He couldn't pick a worse guy to mentor a young clubhouse . . . . [Reply]

I don't believe that, it's someone Moore has to work closely with, this man is so religious he has that stupid porn stance, seems like a dream come true to Moore to hire him. [Reply]

Worse than 105 and 103 losses? Not possible really.
They traded him after about 25 games. He was playing well. Not Amazing, but solid. [Reply]
@JonHeyman: Pedro Grifol is on the #SFGiants manager list and is expected to get an interview. The well-regarded Royals quality control/catching coach is also a candidate in KC. [Reply]
Hopefully the new boss will nip this Matheney talk in the bud. I haven't heard one Cards fan have a good word to say about this guy. Much rather have Ibanez, Grifol or Madden. [Reply]
