It's a herniated disc, but the location of it is brutal - in the lower back it's going to make him prone to upper back injuries his whole career. A few Padres writers have also reported he had struggled with back spasms throughout the minors.
With back problems of my own, I always look into injuries like that. It's not always reported as being a career long injury, but often injuries like this do end careers. There are some exceptions (like Kershaw) but he's had to be managed strategically by the Dodgers to make sure he's always ready for the playoffs. [Reply]
Whit gets to 200 hits. This is an incredible stat.
With @WhitMerrifield reaching 200 hits, the #Royals will become the 1st A.L. team since the 1931 Yankees that has a 200-hit player, a different 45-home run player and another 40-stolen base player.
The '31 Yankees were Lou Gehrig (hits), Babe Ruth (HR) and Ben Chapman (SB).

I might have heard wrong when they were talking about it on the radio, but doesn't this particular surgery make him less likely to dislocate from the joint again? [Reply]
