He got the same money Collins got. 3 years, $42M = 6 years, $84M. In fact, Mathieu will likely have higher cap hits because of the signing bonus not being spreadable (but lower dead money in the last year of his deal).

I have a hard time getting excited about it either. That's a lot of money for an undersized guy with an injury history, especially when he didn't play well last year.
Don't have an issue with that signing at all. You'd think this means that Berry is on super thin ice though cause having 2 safeties with those contracts isn't real doable.

21st ranked PFF safety last year, considered ‘good’. :-)

It just seems like something Veach likes to do. Plus, we have depth at a ton of positions. We just need a couple of star-quality players. Or three.

Again I agree with your opinion. I hope you are correct.
His versatility is probably what they like most about him to be honest and he gives them a safety with legit cover ability something we haven't had for awhile.
Makes you wonder if CJ Mosely is still in play as that was rumored earlier today.

I know nothing about him....what are his strengths?
The Texans offered Mathieu a long-term deal worth over $9.5 million per year before free agency, but once it started, Chiefs and Texans were bidding for Mathieu until the very end. Hearing Houston’s final offer was close to KC’s.
Surprised he would leave a good situation for similar money.
