Both Thursday and today are just as much on Schildt as the starting pitchers. There's nothing about Gomber or Gant that should give a manager confidence that they are anything other than backend/AAAA pitchers. With expanded rosters, they should always be on a short leash. [Reply]
And that’s the season. Matheny gave away too many games earlier this year, Shildt has been less than stellar after his contract, but ultimately this was a flawed roster with that relied on too many rookies that ran out of gas. [Reply]

Shildt has been awful, not less than stellar. Just another braindead idiot behind the controls that can't recognize when his pitchers are in trouble.
The rookies didn't run out of gas; they regressed to the mean. Guys like Gant, Gomber, Hudson, and Poncedeleon are all 5th starter/AAAA players. Mo did a terrible job building the bullpen, it was as bad as it has ever been in August but got by on luck, and then the luck normalized in September. Meanwhile, Schildt kept flushing games by relying on Norris because he couldn't see that he had been a fucking turd since June.
All the while, Mo keeps losing trades and passing on players that could help them. Pham is .338/.417.570 over the last month, FWIW. [Reply]

what trade did he lose? As far as Pham goes, we have YEARS of waiting for him to live up to his potential. He needed to go. Way to may outfielders on this roster.

agreed. He seems to have that old school managerial gene that this is my guy, he will get right. Just got to give him a chance. That’s not a Schildt thing. 75%+ of all managers are like that. But, OTOH who is reliable out of the pen he can bring in for 5-6 innings every game?

disagree on Gomber and Hudson. I think they have a #3/#4 starter ceiling, not AAAA starter. [Reply]

How many other OF on the Cardinals have put up a 6 WAR season? Certainly not Fowler (and not Ozuna, either). Pham was the best player on the team last year and the best player on the team during the first 1.5 months of the season. Voit is tearing the cover off the ball in NY while Shreve gets pisspounded. Meanwhile, Jose Martinez has fucking killed the team with his offense in September (and his horrific defense at every position all year).
Mozeliak cannot evaluate the guys he has in house for shit, and neither can his managers. It's why they kept running Holland, Fowler, and Norris out there, Martinez now, and it's why they jettisoned Pham, but they give these mediocre starters and relievers enough rope to hang the entire fucking team. So what if we waited years. Now that he has lived up to the potential, it makes it ok that we shipped him out of town?

This is unfortunatly a very good recap. Shreve was also a guy I read at the time Yankees fans were very excited to be gone at the time. [Reply]
