I mean, I don't really think it's the scheme necessarily, but once guys aren't playing hard and have tuned your message out, time to blow it up. [Reply]

Everybody in the known world knows this team is a few defensive stands away from a championship, including the entire Chiefs defense. They’re mailing it in because they don’t like Bob Sutton. Screw a golden chance at getting the most elusive jewelry in pro sports. :-):-):-) [Reply]
You watch teams like Cleveland and Minnesota who made changes mid season/end of the year and see a distinct change in how the players responded and lifted their games and compare it to KC's defense week in, week out and it is downright depressing. [Reply]

Yes, if the issue is getting the players to execute or be motivated then there needs to be change.
They played like total ass in Seattle which was a big opportunity to seal things up and instead they played arguably their sloppiest and worst defensive game of the season. [Reply]

Both of those teams made significant changes on OFFENSE, the side that actually dictates the flow of a game. And if you actually watch Minnesota, they’re an obvious candidate for getting blown out in the playoffs. They’re more consistent but they certainly aren’t “good”. [Reply]

Sutton has to be fired. There’s no way around it. [Reply]

Not sure who is saying this is happening because the players dont liek Bob.
Whats your explination for a guy like Hitchens who had zero missed tackles last season playing like he is?

Bob 100% is the biggest issue.
Bob is the easiest common denominator. The “single throat to choke”.
But make no mistake about it - if an almost 30-year old PROFESSIONAL suddenly “forgets” how to tackle, you have bigger problems than “just” the defensive coordinator. [Reply]

I think what we've identified is that our 30 year old veteran doesn't know basic gap responsibilities all of a sudden. Our veteran CBs have no idea where to line up. When you are uncertain, you play on your heels. When this happens enough, your players lose confidence in the defense. When your biggest warrior on defense for years, Houston, starts mailing it in. Those are all things coaching should solve. Our players don't know their scheme, don't know their responsibilities, and clearly have no confidence in the scheme. [Reply]

Houston doesn’t know the scheme he’s been playing in for 5 years? :-) [Reply]

Absolutely.
But you don’t go into it thinking that a new DC is a magic pill. These guys obviously have character issues that will also have to be addressed, preferably by getting rid of them as well. [Reply]

Who says they are happy with the current roster? [Reply]
