Media Center>Game of Thrones Seasons 7-8
keg in kc 02:23 PM 05-24-2017
About to hit the 5000 post mark on the old thread, the first season 7 trailer today seems like the right time to start the final Game of Thones thread.

I'm going back to the original rules pre-2015. I don't think we need supervision or bannings. Just don't be a dick. Post anything you find online that hasn't aired yet inside of spoiler tags. That's pretty much it. I think we can all handle that...

For future us, 2015 thread is here: Link

Not to that point, though. Just stopping for an anime pose and smirk? Not even criticizing because I laughed, but it was odd.

He knew he had won the battle. They couldn't stop him.

Little did he know that Arya had snuck through the hundreds of wights surrounding him and hidden in the tree so that she could pounce like a jaguar. :-)

They're being set up for a huge arc the rest of the way, imo. Tyrion has made recent blunders (though arguably, he succeeded in getting dany to fully commit to the great war) which you have to expect means he has a huge redemption coming. Will be an interesting dichotomy between Sansa earning loyalty and dany demanding it. Sansa being extremely resourceful where cersei relies on drunkenly throwing her money around. I mean, the show went out of their way to make them declare their uselessness for this episode.

She could have worn a wights face and distracted the NK while Jon landed the killing blow. His little bad ass cousin stole his glory

Now he’s gotta end up on that throne or his whole arc since season 1 was basically worthless

She clearly had the mask of the dead on, blended in.

I guess. Most of these are just humorous nitpicks for me since I enjoyed myself watching the episode. The one REAL criticism I have (outside of the plot armor and Hollywood writing) is Jon did damn near nothing during the battle against the Night King. It actually makes a ton of sense, at least to me, that Arya be the one to ultimately kill him due to her story arc, but Jon essentially rode a dragon that was fighting the Night Kings dragon and that was their whole confrontation.

I'm intrigued about what happens with the Golden company. On the one hand they're mercenaries with a history of extreme loyalty. On the other hand they badly want to return from exile and they have to see they have a really losing hand backing cersei.

So send both of your queens forward into a screen you can’t see? When there’s a big bad out there who killed one of your queens the last time you did that?

The book reader sub has been a cesspit since Season 4. They also won't tell you this, but that same subreddit hated Feast and Dance when they were first released.

The thing is, Storm of Swords set such a standard in both the books and the show and I'm not sure it's ever going to be met again through either medium.

I take that to mean that the result will be the same, not that the way they get there will be the same. I think the only thing we can glean from this episode about how the books will end is that the Night King is not going to win.

If we ever get a book ending, I still think it will involve Azor Ahai and Lightbringer and all that stuff that the show just ignored in this episode. Arya is not Azor Ahai, and I highly doubt she's the one to kill the Night King in the books.

A sneering villain reveling in his moment of triumph, secure in the knowledge that he'd won the day. Or night, in this case. :-)

I thought for a second when Jon went after the NK that we’ll see a duel similar to battle of the bastards showdown. Interesting tact by the NK to raise the dead to deal with Jon, instead of himself. What was the point of the stare downs they had at hardhome and when Jon kidnapped a dead? They seemed destined to fight each other.

There was build up there and disappointed we didn’t see that play out.
