After countless shortlist stories and rumors concerning who would play Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the search for the lead role is finally over, and fittingly the actor is someone who never appeared on any of the aforementioned lists. Deadline reports that Chris Pratt has been tapped to play Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, a character who was born of a human mother and alien father, and is a master strategist and combat expert who wears an ability-enhancing suit and pilots a psychically-linked ship. As Guardians features a cast of strange and cosmic characters, Quill was an important role to fill because he will likely act as the audience’s introduction to the vast, unfamiliar Guardians world. Hit the jump for more.
There were plenty of actors rumored for the role that made a lot of sense (John Krasinski, Zachary Levi, etc.), and Deadline notes that Marvel made test deals with Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne, but Chris Pratt actually seems like a perfect fit. His comic timing is excellent as evidenced by his work on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and he’s shown his talent on the dramatic side with Moneyball and 2012’s Zero Dark Thirty, for which he also proved that he can beef up for a role if need-be.
Looking back on the previous shortlists and taking Pratt into consideration, it’s clear that writer/director James Gunn is planning on injecting a good amount of humor into Guardians of the Galaxy. A rumor surfaced recently that Marvel was looking at possibly tapping Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler to do voice work in the film (one of the guardians is a talking raccoon), so I’m interested to see the tone that Gunn settles on for the finished film.
With the role of Star-Lord secure, Gunn and Marvel now look to filling out the rest of the cast, which includes the powerful Drax the Destroyer, a giant tree named Groot, the aforementioned Rocket Raccoon, and the female lead Gamora. The story is also rumored to involve the villain Thanos. Expect to hear more soon as production gears up to begin later this year. Guardians of the Galaxy will be released in 3D on August 1, 2014. It's all about the ass
KICK ASS,BAD ASS, SMART ASS...
I went in wanting to love this movie and was not disappointed
saw it in IMAX 3D so it was on a BIG ASS screen in 3D
really made the CGI work
loved the space battles, JJ you got some work to do (no flares, non)
and Groot and Rocket really looked great on the screen
Vin Diesel as Groot, did more emoted with 3 words than he has in the entire furiously fast franchise
Chriss Pratt as Peter Quill, channels his inner Han Solo/Malcom Reynolds very well, it's good to have a rogue back on the big screen
Batista as Drax, I have read poor reviews, but you know the guy is a wrestler and has done the best acting from that background since Jesse Ventura didn't have time to bleed
Bradley Cooper as Rocket, this little Bad Ass is heart and soul of the team, I loved the crazy little fucker and yeah, most of his best lines are in the trailers but seeing them in context made my laugh
Zoe Saldana as the green chick with the NICE ASS, her ass was in so many shots it deserves billing as co star
she did a great job as most dangerous lady in the galaxy, but her ass had RANGE
yes First in Black leather, then red leather, and finaly inna mini skirt keep an eye out for this ass come oscar time. It is worth a closer look.
The villian knew his role he was there to get his ASS handed to him, and that's about all he did
Beautiful eye candy, does not touc a brain cell in your head
great time
bring a UV flashlight and enjoy
stay for the closing credits to see how true a marvel fan you are
Natahn Fillian had a cameo as monsterous inmate
think it was Groot's playmate
Spoiler!
Did you recognize the voice of who they used to voice Howard the Duck?

My only question...
Spoiler!
Anyone know who his Dad is supposed to be?
Spoiler!
It's in the comic books and there are two mentions of him in the movie: 1) Yondu says near the end that he was sent to Earth to bring Peter back to his father but decided not to and 2) The Nova Corp tells Peter that he is half-alien and that's how he withstood the stone. If you want to know more, I can further spoilerify you

Dave already kinda said it. His dad in the comics is named J'Son (spelling?) from a world called Spartax, making Peter half alien. In the comics, his mom dies from an alien attack but cancer works fine for the movie.
I get the feeling that a lot of the overwhelmingly positive reviews this movie is getting are due to the recency effect. When the dust settles, I think it will be mentioned as one of the best, but not the best. It has a few problems.
My ranking is:
A+: Avengers, Captain America 2
A: Captain America, Iron Man
A-: Thor, Guardians
B: Thor 2, Incredible Hulk
C or maybe D: Iron Man 2 and 3
It speaks well of the MCU that most of the movies are just variations on an A grade. [Reply]
Just saw it for the second time. Enjoyed it as much as the first.
And whoever's boning Zoe Saldana is the luckiest fucker around. She's ridiculously hot and, for kink, she can now dress as a blue Pandoran, Lt. Uhura, and Gamora. [Reply]
