I'm being way too optimistic about this. It just feels like Veach shopped for 4-3 groceries and I don't think he's going to ask a 67-year old 3-4 coach and a 75 year old DBs coach to lead that march. Either they didn't like the DC candidates available (there will be plenty of Reid tree guys this offseason). Also possible they want to transition Defenses but want to make it painful (our D has warts, but it might have been worse if we experimented with a 4-3 right away). Again, just trying to be over over optimistic. I'm skeptical, but there's some reason for hope. [Reply]

What even front personnel do they have? You would need to have Ford,Houston, Jones and Nnadi on the line, and what coverage backers do they have? hitchens and ragland are terrible in coverage. DoD is probably their best converage backer. [Reply]

Ragland should be out no matter what.
I've talked a lot about Pagano's 3-4 Under which is a 4-3 defense run out of a 3-4 front. O'Daniel is an ideal coverage LB. Jones, Nnadi, Speaks, Bailey easily have a place whether it's a 4-3 or a 4-3 run out of a 3-4 front. Speaks also gives us other options to think about at OLB, where I imagine both Houston & Ford (but especially Houston) would thrive in either front. The wild card for me is Hitchens, but he's done fine in a 4-3 role. [Reply]
Watching that Ravens D vs. ours is like watching two different sports. And it's not just the scheme. They swarm to the ball, make solo tackles all over the field, punch the ball out, etc.
Our scheme sucks, but our effort is just as bad. [Reply]

Pre-snap alignment for Ravens is most always spot on. Players make right reads. It's a combination of both. Yes we need better players in secondary.. but is there any doubt that the Raven's DC would vastly improve our defense? Sacking Sutton would be the best first move. [Reply]
I'm holding out hope that Berry can turn us into an average defense but it's kind of a double edge sword because it might mean Bob survives if we're successful enough. Just hoping Bob retires at this point. [Reply]

That is a serious catch-22. Give me a SB win and I'll personally put the horse's head in Bobby's bed. :-) [Reply]
