They should have known that having a coach who won't adapt and learn from his mistakes, and players on a pitch count (to a fault), was going to result in exactly that.

That was Penny Marshall.

Unfortunately, Penny Marshall, right now, can direct a movie better than Bob Sutton can coordinate a defense.

lol, I didn't expect this little tangent coming here. I'm a pretty "bleh" NFL fan (I coach HS football, don't have the time) but living in Nebraska I watch a lot of Chiefs football. I did NOT realize there was this relatively massive group of fans convinced of conspiracy. I mean, I knew there were a few...but not like this.

It'll wear out after a bit but right now it's a fun little hobby. Finals week and giving tests so I'm bored as shit at school.:-)

You didn't realize it? Go to most ANY NFL fan BB and you'll see it's not only there, but its growing in popularity.

For a different spin, check out the LAC BB. They feel that there not only is one, but they are finally benefitting from it this season. Search the LAC / Denver Broncos game thread there and read some of the responses towards the end of the game - You wont get bored. :-)

I can imagine. I'd also guess (ironically) that Stealer and Cheatriot fans are the worst.

You're a cornfed rube if you think for a second that anything generating the hundreds of billions of dollars of revenue that the NFL generates per year ISN'T manipulated.

Did you know that the NFL is controlled by the exact same CT SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT bylaws that the WWE is required to follow?

It's true - a fan sued the NFL In 2010, on the grounds that Spygate meant his season tickets he paid for as a Jets fan contained a ticket to 'an illegitimate sporting event', i.e. the Patriots game. His case was, because the Patriots were cheaters, he should get his money back for that game, since the contest wasn't on the up and up.

The case went to the Supreme Court. You know what the NFL's lawyers stated ON THE RECORD??

The NFL is allowed to manipulate and control aspects of games for television and entertainment purposes, by CT sports entertainment law. The fan's ticket entitles the ticket holder the right to watch whatever sports entertainment spectacle that the NFL chooses to display. They stated the Spygate angle was a storyline, and that even if ingame play or outcomes were maniplulated, by other teams or the league itself, NFL fans would continue to watch the sport.

That is what the NFL's lawyers said, in the Supreme Court, on the record, you can look the whole case up. It basically makes Arrowhead a live location shoot 8x a year with 80,000 paying extras.

This an article from before they took it to the Supreme Court (the entite Supreme Court ruling is also available online)

PHILADELPHIA -- NFL fans miffed by the New England Patriots' secret videotaping of their opponents' signals can boycott games or team merchandise, but they can't seek legal damages for "Spygate," a U.S. appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The appeals panel upheld a district judge's ruling that dismissed the suit by lawyer Carl Mayer, a New York Jets season ticket holder from Princeton, N.J.

Mayer had argued that fans spent large sums to see games that were essentially rigged, and he sought $185 million in damages for Jets fans alone
. The 3rd Circuit Court didn't buy it.

"We do not condone the conduct on the part of the Patriots and the team's head coach, and we likewise refrain from assessing whether the NFL's sanctions [and its alleged destruction of the videotapes themselves] were otherwise appropriate," Senior Judge Robert E. Cowen wrote for the three-judge panel.

However, he said Mayer failed to prove any legal right to damages.

"At best, he possessed nothing more than a contractual right to a seat from which to watch an NFL game between the Jets and the Patriots, and this right was clearly honored," Cowen wrote.

The judges -- one a longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan -- had peppered lawyers with questions in oral arguments in Philadelphia last month. Cowen called the taping "a horrendous violation." But he also thought the league issued "a whopper" of a fine -- $750,000 -- against the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick after they were caught taping signals at the Jets' 2007 home opener in Giants Stadium.

The Patriots went on to win 38-14.

Mayer and his lawyer, Bruce Afran, both worked for consumer advocate Ralph Nader earlier in their careers and consider "Spygate" a consumer-fraud case.

"It's a clear issue of consumer fraud. The mere fact that this is in the context of football doesn't mean that the people who pay to see the game have no rights," Afran said Wednesday.

Many NFL ticket holders struggle to pay the high ticket price and deserve an honest game in return, he said.

"[The opinion] seems to suggest that no matter how much ticket holders pay, they can be defrauded by NFL teams. And it puts the NFL on the same level as professional wrestling," Afran said.

Mayer plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, buoyed in part by what he called consumer-friendly rulings involving sports teams in other circuit courts. For instance, one said Ohio's consumer-protection laws apply to statements the Cleveland Browns made about whether they were staying in town, he said.

"We think the matter might be of interest to the Supreme Court," Mayer told The Associated Press. "We never surrender."

The suit alleged that the Patriots taped the Jets' signals in their twice-yearly contests for seven years, and sought treble damages for Jets fans based on a rough average of $100 a ticket.

The NFL argued that fans likely would buy tickets even if they knew the Patriots were stealing signals. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello declined to comment except to say the ruling speaks for itself. Lawyer Daniel L. Goldberg, representing Belichick and the Patriots, said the ruling follows a clear line of case law.

"We always viewed this as a frivolous lawsuit, brought to the court by a Jets season ticket holder who happens to be a lawyer," he said in a statement.

Mayer alleged the games were essentially rigged and raised a separate claim against the NFL for destroying the videotapes.

But the appeals court said ticket-holders possess only licenses or contractual rights to see games, and that it is up to the NFL to enforce its own rules if something goes amiss.

I guess HS football is rigged too. We figured out what personnel packages were getting subbed on/off based off sideline cards.

So now the argument is that lawyers said things in court? That's the evidence?
