No players were disciplined by Major League Baseball in the Astros' investigation. While Mets manager Carlos Beltran was part of it, he was a player at the time and thus was not suspended.
Discipline for Red Sox manager Alex Cora is coming. It is going to be harsh, per sources.
The $5M is nothing but a slap on the wrist. How many owners wouldn't pay $5M for a flag and that kind of multi-season run?
But the draft picks is a major kick in the junk. And they deserve it no doubt. Losing 2 picks in the top 60ish in consecutive years is a pretty strong deterrent. They don't quite have the payroll of the big boys, so hitting on the draft and having a GM as smart as Lunhow has gone a long way to making them as good as they've been lately. Along with cheating, I suppose! [Reply]
[Passan] Even though Astros manager AJ Hinch disagreed with the use of video -- going so far as to damage a monitor used in the scheme multiple times to show his disapproval -- he was still suspended for a year.
[Passan] "Witnesses consistently describe this new scheme as player-driven ... with the exception of Cora."
What in the fuck? Why aren't the players being held accountable? [Reply]

Because fighting with the MLBPA is a losing battle. [Reply]

Yeah, that part was a little harder to swallow. Hinch doesn't seem like a bad guy. [Reply]

I agree in theory, but what do you do? You can't really play the games over or give the title to the runner up. The loss of draft picks, suspensions, and fines are appropriate but still not enough. I would be a supporter of placing an * next to their titles in all official publications for posterity. That way it would be an acknowledgement that it was determined that cheating propelled their success.
I firmly believe the two bronco titles should be addressed this way. Aside from knowing what the opposing team is going to do in advance, there is no greater competitive advantage than having more money to fill out your roster than the rest of the league. [Reply]
