Wasn’t that the biggest argument for the shut downs? So hospitals aren’t overrun?

It was one of the reasons everything locked down. Otherwise we're arguing semantics.

Seemed to be the biggest argument when people brought up the mortality rate not justifying shutting everything down.

Am I wrong about that?

It was halfway about that and halfway about delaying cases until a treatment or vaccine is found. How long do we want to delay on the hopes that a reliable medical intervention can be discovered?

It was always mostly about minimizing infections and therefore deaths. Not overrunning the hospitals was just part of that.

If hospitals had been overrun, would we have had more deaths?

Wrong. It was about slowing then rate so the hospitals didn't get bombarded. Slowing and reducing are not the same thing though reduction was a hoped for byproduct. Nonetheless it was not the goal.
